Platform 1 offers unique self-catering accommodation within the former Castle Howard Station, located just outside the village of Welburn. Rich in history yet thoughtfully updated with modern comforts, this distinctive apartment provides a memorable retreat in one of North Yorkshire’s most beautiful settings.
Accommodation
Created from the station’s original public waiting room, the apartment combines striking architectural features with a chic, contemporary style. Spacious and light-filled, the rooms overlook the former railway track and sit within approximately 1.5 acres of well-fenced formal and wild gardens.
The sitting room features large arched windows with original shutters, comfortable sofas and a Samsung 43” Smart TV with Sky Digital Freeview, making it an inviting space to relax after a day of sightseeing. Across the hall, the stylish kitchen would not look out of place in a lifestyle magazine and is fully equipped for self-catering, with an electric cooking range, microwave, fridge freezer, dishwasher, granite worktops, crockery, cutlery, glassware and cooking utensils. Guests are also welcomed with a thoughtfully prepared welcome basket on arrival.
The en-suite double bedroom is finished to a high standard and includes an anti-allergenic mattress and fine-quality bedding. Natural light fills the room through courtyard-facing windows and a Velux skylight. A separate shower room and WC are also available for guest convenience.
Outside, a private patio area with outdoor furniture provides the perfect spot for al fresco dining on warm summer days. Guests are also free to enjoy the surrounding wildlife garden, which includes a large pond and is home to frogs, butterflies and a wide variety of wild birds.
