Off the Rails, Plockton, Ross-Shire, Highlands (Sleeps 1-6)

Off the Rails is a wonderful self-catering holiday cottage set above the village of Plockton in the Scottish Highlands. This holiday cottage with a difference offers a unique holiday experience that all the family will enjoy and is ideal for train enthusiasts.

Accommodation:
Built in 1887 on the famous Inverness to Kyle line, Plockton is a working but unmanned station. The station building has been tastefully refurbished preserving wonderful Victorian features and architecture but rewired with all the technology guests have come to expect, such as complimentary wireless broadband, LCD televisions, DVD players and a music system with an iPod docking station.

Our holiday accommodation is comfortable and well equipped & has been designed with your comfort in mind to ensure that your stay with us is ‘first class’. The station can accommodate up to 6 people, with parking just outside the building. We are only a few minutes from the centre of the village. Our holiday home is all at ground floor level, ideal for people with limited mobility.

'The Old Ticket Office' is now the lounge with the original pitch pine cladding on the walls, wooden floor and ceiling and an original Victorian fireplace. A basket of logs and coal is provided. The ticket hatch has been preserved as it was, and the lounge is equipped with LCD television with Freesat and DVD player. The comfy sofa converts to a double bed together with a tub chair, armchair, bean bags and footstool.

'The Ladies Waiting Room' is now a bedroom with a quality king-size bed with bedside tables, LCD television and DVD, comfortable chairs and fully fitted carpet. The former 'Gentleman’s Toilet' has been converted into a spacious luxury en suite wet room with its own sauna and cold drench shower (as well as a thermostatically controlled hot one) and underfloor heating. 'The Ladies Toilet' has been converted into a utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer. A pulley system is available for drying coats and jackets as it does occasionally rain in Plockton! The freezer is located in here and with the tiled floor the room is suitable for the storage of bicycles, boots and your outdoor gear!

'The Gentlemen’s Waiting Room’ is now the open-plan country kitchen and dining room. The pitch pine cladding has been retained along with the original wooden floor and ceiling, creating a warm and cosy atmosphere, reminiscent of the old days when passengers waited patiently for the train to arrive. There is a large island unit with a breakfast bar and an induction hob with an island cooker hood, oven, microwave, fridge and dishwasher. The original Victorian open-hearth fire will once again bring a warm glow to this old room, and a dining table and chairs make this a perfect place to unwind after a great day out! In the alcove, the shelves are lined with books and magazines, a radio and CD player, and even an iPod docking station for those who like their gadgets!

'The Station Masters Office' is now a bedroom, and to ensure comfort and warmth, a carpet has been fitted. The pine cladding has been retained on the walls and ceiling, barely changing this former bustling office, since it was built when Queen Victoria was on the throne. An original architectural feature has been utilised as a bed head for either a king-size or twin beds (zip and link), and a sumptuous mattress topper has been provided for the king-size bed. The bedroom has an LCD television with Freesat, DVD player and hairdryer. The Master's fireplace has been retained as a symbol of those great days of the past!

Visiting Plockton & Exploring Ross-shire:
Plockton is at the very centre of one of the best holiday destinations in the UK. There is something to do for all of the family, from exploring ancient ruined castles, beach-combing and watching fantastic wildlife, on the land, in the sea and in the air. Your time at Off the Rails will never be long enough, but be sure to ensure that you relax and unwind, ready to return to the bustle of the world beyond. Whether it be a gentle stroll along the shore, or the challenge of climbing one of the majestic mountains close by, you will take home memories that will last a lifetime.
