Leargy House, Craighouse, Isle of Jura


Set two miles north of Craighouse on the Isle of Jura, Leargy House is a beautifully restored former church offering high-quality self-catering accommodation in an unforgettable coastal setting. Guests can enjoy sweeping south-easterly views across a white sandy beach towards the sea, Jura’s Small Isles Bay and the distant Mull of Kintyre. Corran Sands beach is just 300 metres away, while the property is surrounded by a generous lawned garden that looks out over the water, creating a wonderfully peaceful place to unwind.

Accommodation

Leargy House has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with hardwood floors throughout and a spacious sitting room centred around a cosy wood-burning stove. The dining area and bedrooms benefit from a bright, south-facing position, making the interior feel light and inviting. Heating is provided by oil central heating and underfloor heating, with electricity included.

On the ground floor, guests will find an open-plan kitchen and dining area that is fully equipped with an electric cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, kettle, cafetiere, toaster, washing machine, iron, ironing board and vacuum cleaner. The lounge includes fibre WiFi, a foldaway table tennis table, a fold-out single bed and an additional mattress. A TV licence is in place, although there is no television.

Sleeping arrangements include two en-suite double bedrooms on the first floor and one double bedroom on the ground floor. Bathroom facilities consist of a first-floor en-suite family bathroom, a first-floor en-suite shower room and a ground-floor shower room. Linen and towels are provided for guests’ convenience.

Visiting the Area

The Isle of Jura is known for its dramatic scenery and peaceful, unspoilt landscapes, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers and those seeking a quieter escape. The main village of Craighouse is a lovely starting point, offering beautiful views across the bay and access to the island’s famous Jura Distillery.

For walkers, the iconic Paps of Jura provide a rewarding challenge and breathtaking panoramic views. Wildlife enthusiasts may spot deer, eagles and seals across the island’s rugged terrain, while boat trips can take visitors close to the powerful Corryvreckan Whirlpool, one of the largest whirlpools in the world. With so much natural beauty and adventure on offer, Jura promises a truly memorable stay.
