Tucked along the High Street in Wells-next-the-Sea, The Old Bakery blends heritage character with an easy, modern style, offering a cosy and well-equipped coastal retreat. Accommodation

Inside, the cottage features an open-plan kitchen and dining area, a welcoming lounge, two bedrooms and excellent bathroom facilities. The kitchen, with its stripped wooden floor and lofted ceiling, is fitted with shaker-style units, a fridge-freezer and a dishwasher, with seating around a pine table for six to eight guests. A washing machine and tumble dryer are housed in an adjacent utility room for added convenience.

The comfortable lounge is ideal for relaxing, complete with a gas-burning stove, Smart TV, Blu-ray player and a selection of films. A range of classic family board games is also provided for cosy evenings indoors. On the ground floor there is a shower room and toilet, while upstairs guests will find a spacious bathroom.

The master bedroom features a four-poster double bed and built-in wardrobe storage. Just off this room, the bathroom includes a large Fired Earth bath and a heated towel rail. The second bedroom offers two full-size single beds, along with under-bed storage, drawers and shelving.

Outside the stable door is a south-facing patio area with a table and seating, perfect for enjoying some fresh air. A brick outhouse provides useful storage for bikes, crab buckets and beach gear. Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, although, as with much of Wells, the connection can be slow. Free parking is available just 30 yards from the front door.

Visiting the Area

Set along a peaceful stretch at the lower end of the Old High Street, The Old Bakery forms part of Wells-next-the-Sea’s historic bakery buildings, giving it a strong sense of local character. Despite its quiet position, the cottage is just moments from the town’s highlights, all within easy walking distance.

The quay is only a couple of minutes away, where fishing boats sit alongside waterside cafés, restaurants and welcoming pubs. The open green of the Buttlands and the independent shops and charm of Staithe Street are close by, along with nature trails and coastal paths waiting to be explored. With free parking so close to the property, guests can easily arrive, park up and enjoy their stay without needing to use the car.
