Hope Farm House Barn, Dovedale, Alstonefield, Ashbourne, Staffordshire, Derbyshire, The Peak District

Hope Farm House Barn offers self-catering accommodation near Alstonefield, on the Derbyshire and Staffordshire border. The beautifully restored barn sleeps up to two people and is ideally located close to the Peak District National Park, making it perfect for a peaceful and relaxing getaway.

Accommodation

This early eighteenth-century barn has been carefully restored while retaining many of its original character features. Old beams and stone flags remain from when the building was originally used as a cow shelter, creating a charming and historic atmosphere that is ideal for a romantic break in the countryside.

The spacious and comfortable sitting room features a log-burning stove, comfortable seating, books and jigsaws, providing a cosy space to relax. From the living room, guests enter a pretty dining room furnished with a pine table and chairs.

The fully equipped kitchen provides everything needed for a self-catering stay, including cutlery, crockery, cooking utensils, a range-style cooker with gas hob, fridge/freezer and a washer/dryer.

The large bedroom features a beautiful French antique bed. The property is suitable for guests with limited mobility and includes a wet room with a shower, WC and wash basin.

Upstairs there is a leisure area where guests can enjoy an antique snooker table, a well-tuned piano and a selection of books. This space also includes another log-burning stove and comfortable chairs, making it a welcoming place to unwind.

Outside, the holiday cottage offers off-road parking and two courtyards where guests can sit and relax.

Visiting the Area

There are many activities available in the surrounding area, including walking, cycling, horse riding, fishing and golf. Visitors can also explore some of the region’s most famous historic houses, including Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall.

The nearby town of Buxton is well known for its natural hot springs, which have been celebrated since Roman times. Buxton is home to an opera house and theatres, as well as a range of shops, pubs and restaurants.

Visitors staying in the area during the summer may also experience the traditional Peak District Well Dressings. These historic festivals celebrate fresh water supplies and date back to ancient times. Villages decorate their wells with intricate pictures created from fresh flower petals and seeds pressed into soft clay. One of the earliest celebrations takes place in the picturesque estate village of Tissington, which celebrates on Ascension Day. Another notable nearby well dressing takes place in Youlgreave later in the season.
