Lower Wood Farm Country Cottages offer a range of self catering properties near Mautby, close to Caister-on-Sea in Norfolk. The cottages provide an ideal place to stay for families and groups looking for a relaxing countryside retreat.
Accommodation
The cottages have been carefully converted from former derelict farm buildings into a charming complex of eight holiday cottages designed to suit a variety of family needs. Surrounded by beautiful unspoilt countryside, the cottages are set within three acres of grounds bordering the Norfolk Broads National Park.
Each cottage has been tastefully decorated and comfortably furnished and has been awarded 4 and 5 Star ratings by Visit England. Guests can enjoy shared access to gardens, patio areas and a range of excellent on-site facilities including an indoor heated swimming pool with changing facilities and shower. There is also an outdoor children’s play paddock and a play barn with pool table, table tennis, table football and a play area for children under five.

Lower Wood Farm features a superb indoor swimming pool, designed in the style of the existing farm buildings. The pool measures 4.5 metres by 12.5 metres and has a depth of 1.2 metres. Wide steps provide safe entry and the water is maintained at a comfortable temperature of 31°C. Underfloor heating and air conditioning create a pleasant, tropical atmosphere throughout the year. The changing area includes cubicles, showers, toilets and baby changing facilities. The swimming pool is unsupervised and guests are asked to follow the health and safety rules provided.
Guests can relax on the sun terrace or in the cottage gardens, or enjoy time together in the games room playing pool, table tennis or table football. Younger children are catered for with a dedicated indoor play area for under fives. In the courtyard there is a popular Wendy House with a selection of outdoor toys and bikes for young visitors.
A covered outdoor dining area provides seating for more than 20 guests, making it ideal for family lunches or evening gatherings. A large gas barbecue is available. The outdoor play paddock offers plenty of space for recreational activities including swings, a slide, goal posts, volleyball, cricket and pitch and putt.
For quieter moments, guests can relax on the swinging seat while enjoying views across the surrounding open countryside.
Visiting Mautby and Exploring Norfolk
Lower Wood Farm has footpaths leading to Mautby, West Caister and across the marshes to the River Bure. The marshland is home to a wide variety of wildlife including barn owls, deer, kingfishers, woodpeckers, hawks, ducks and geese. Country lanes nearby also provide opportunities for cycling to the surrounding villages.
There are many attractions within easy reach including the Norfolk Broads, Sandringham House, Blickling House, Norwich Castle, Felbrigg Hall, BeWILDerwood Norfolk, Dinosaur Park in Norwich, Wroxham Barns and Thrigby Wildlife Park.
Rates start from £575 to £2950 per week depending on the season and cottage. The largest cottage sleeps up to 9 guests. Children are welcome. Pets are not permitted. Cape Cottage is fully accessible and includes a separate wet room. The cottages provide superfast broadband Wi-Fi and have been awarded 4 and 5 Star Gold by Visit England. Electric vehicle charging is also available.
