The Old Gravel Pit Lodges consists of four rustic cabins set within 30 acres of a private nature reserve, offering a peaceful and secluded retreat for those looking to escape the pressures of modern life. Surrounded by tranquil countryside, it provides the perfect place to slow down, disconnect from technology and rediscover the benefits of a more relaxed pace of living.
Guests can choose from two one-bedroom “unplugged” cabins designed for a digital detox, encouraging visitors to switch off their devices and fully immerse themselves in the peaceful surroundings. There are also two two-bedroom cabins equipped with Wi-Fi and a smart TV for those who may still need to stay connected or work remotely during their stay.
Each cabin features double French doors opening onto a private verandah, providing a wonderful spot to sit back and enjoy the natural beauty of the reserve. The cabins are fully equipped with kitchens, cast iron gas stoves and laundry facilities, ensuring a comfortable and convenient stay.
Across the 30-acre site, meandering natural paths lead through woodland and open areas, with charming bridges crossing smaller bodies of water. Fishing enthusiasts can enjoy the large lake known as Digby, which features designated fishing pegs for a peaceful day by the water. Every cabin also includes a comprehensive guide with useful information about the lodges and the surrounding landscape.
The reserve itself is a haven of tranquillity, where shimmering lakes are home to fish, wildfowl and a wide variety of birdlife. The nature reserve and coarse fishing opportunities are reserved exclusively for guests, allowing visitors to fully enjoy birdwatching, fishing and exploring the natural environment without interruption.
Walking paths have been carefully created throughout the site, allowing guests to explore the heart of this wildlife sanctuary. Benches placed along the routes offer ideal spots for sketching, photography or simply pausing to enjoy the sights and sounds of the woodland and field birds. For keen birdwatchers, a dedicated hide is located by one of the lakes, and each lodge is equipped with a plant and wildlife identification book to enhance the experience.
The lakes cover nearly half of the reserve and each lodge benefits from its own private fishing platform, making it easy for anglers to enjoy the water. Fish species include Rudd, Roach, Tench, Carp, Bream and Ide, making the lodges a wonderful destination for fishing enthusiasts as well as those seeking peace and quiet in nature.
Rates range from £650 to £950 per week depending on the season, with a minimum stay of three nights at £140 per night. The lodges accommodate a maximum of four guests and are designed for adult stays, therefore children are not permitted. Off-street parking is available, and Wi-Fi is provided in some lodges. Disabled facilities may be available; please enquire for exact details.
