Ellicombe Manor’s holiday cottages are set within Exmoor along Somerset’s beautiful South West coastline, surrounded by striking scenery that creates a truly restorative escape. The four distinctive cottages are tucked within the grounds of Ellicombe Manor, a Grade II listed 16th-century house, and each one provides a comfortable retreat designed to feel like a home away from home. Guests can wander through the lush sub-tropical gardens, spend time with the resident animals, or simply unwind beside the heated outdoor swimming pool.
Chapel Cottage
Tucked just off the lane, Chapel Cottage is a characterful and intimate retreat, full of charm and unique touches. The cosy lounge opens out onto a private, enclosed garden that enjoys plenty of southern sunshine, while the historic 16th-century chapel door remains as a distinctive feature. A spacious separate kitchen with a dining area overlooks the Manor’s lawn, and a spiral staircase leads up to a light-filled main double bedroom with its own en-suite shower room. For added flexibility, there is also a comfortable double sofa bed in the sitting room downstairs.
Grooms Cottage
Covered in vibrant Virginia creeper, Grooms Cottage is a beautifully converted Grade II listed retreat that can accommodate up to four guests. The upper floor includes a main double bedroom and a twin room, with a shower room conveniently located between them. Downstairs, guests will find a spacious open-plan lounge and dining area alongside a separate kitchen. Outside, a private seating area overlooks the main courtyard, creating an ideal spot for barbecues and evenings under the stars.
The Old Coach House
The Old Coach House is a secluded retreat designed with couples in mind. Patio doors open onto a private, enclosed terrace that enjoys plenty of southern sun. Inside, a vaulted ceiling and exposed beams create a warm and inviting atmosphere, making it a peaceful hideaway tucked out of sight. The main double bedroom includes its own dressing area, with a bathroom conveniently located nearby. Just off the living space is a compact yet well-equipped kitchen, ideal for preparing anything from a simple meal to something special.
Stables Cottage
Stables Cottage enjoys lovely views towards the manor house draped in wisteria and can accommodate up to four guests. It features a main double bedroom and a twin room, served by a family bathroom. Set on one level, the cottage offers an open-plan living, kitchen and dining space, with oak-panelled walls and exposed beams adding warmth and character throughout.
Ellicombe Manor also has a chalet available at Dunster Beach, with further details available on the website.
Pool & Grounds
Guests can enjoy the heated swimming pool, open from May through September, while the gardens remain accessible all year round as they continue to be restored to their former splendour. The grounds offer plenty to explore, including a fire pit, swing set, picnic bench, large outdoor chess set, and tucked-away corners perfect for summer picnics, family games or relaxing with a drink at sunset.
There are also opportunities to meet and help feed the friendly resident goats and sheep — including the well-known Jock — or enjoy a peaceful walk with the dogs through the orchard, making Ellicombe Manor an ideal countryside escape for visitors of all ages.
