Barton Court is a gracious Georgian country estate on the western slopes of the Malvern Hills, just outside the village of Colwall near Malvern in rural Herefordshire. Set among seven acres of private gardens and grounds, the lovingly restored 18th-century house and its former estate buildings now offer refined self-catering accommodation, perfect for everything from a romantic break for two to a landmark celebration.
Modern comforts sit effortlessly alongside period elegance, creating a relaxed setting for unhurried meals, leisurely walks and long conversations around the fire. A stay at Barton Court is more than simply booking somewhere to sleep — it offers a private haven where families and friends can reconnect with each other, the landscape and a gentler pace of life.
Barton Court
The main residence is an imposing yet welcoming Georgian home, sleeping up to 26 guests across 11 beautifully furnished bedrooms. Nine of the bedrooms are en suite, with two additional dedicated shower rooms.
The main living areas are generous and inviting, designed to encourage relaxed time together in a stunning country setting. The drawing room is spacious and bright, with large windows overlooking the gardens, making it a natural gathering space for conversation and unwinding. A cosy library lined with books provides a quieter spot to relax, while the large dining room offers flexible space for shared meals, from casual breakfasts to celebratory dinners.
The kitchen is open and sociable, thoughtfully arranged so that cooking becomes part of the shared experience, while the breakfast area enjoys views over the gardens and Malvern Hills, creating a wonderful start to the day.
Guests have access to over two acres of private gardens right outside the door, as well as nearly seven acres of secluded estate grounds to explore. These include a historic walled garden and a newly planted orchard, mature trees and colourful borders, and winding paths through natural meadow areas where wildflowers and pollinators thrive. The gardens are designed to be enjoyed in every way, whether playing lawn games, enjoying a barbecue, or simply relaxing and listening to birdsong. Wildlife such as butterflies, bees, birds and even red kites are often spotted around the grounds.
The Clock Tower
The Clock Tower is a lovingly renovated historic cottage, ideal for one or two guests, set within the grounds of the Barton Court Estate. Standing separately from the other buildings, it offers a fully private and self-contained place to stay.
Arranged over two floors, it provides a warm and inviting space for slowing down and enjoying a peaceful break. On the ground floor, the welcoming lounge features a wood-burning stove, perfect for cosy evenings after days spent walking or exploring. The kitchen is well equipped for simple home-cooked meals and opens out onto a private patio and decked seating area, with access through to the beautiful Walled Garden.
Upstairs, the bedroom offers a calm and comfortable retreat with lovely countryside views. A toilet and basin are also located on this level, while a contemporary shower room is conveniently positioned downstairs, combining period charm with modern comfort.
The Hayloft
The Hayloft is a thoughtfully converted hideaway with a calm, contemporary style, ideal for one or two guests. Set across a single level, it features an open-plan living space with a comfortable seating area, dining table and internet TV, alongside a well-equipped kitchen with everything needed for self-catering. Handy extras include a dishwasher and air fryer.
The bedroom includes a double bed made up with crisp white linen and non-allergic bedding, while the en suite bathroom offers a bath with shower over, basin, loo and useful storage. Outside, a garden table and chairs provide a peaceful spot to sit back and take in views of the surrounding hills.
Visiting the Area
Barton Court is an ideal base for exploring the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Great Malvern’s priory, theatre and independent shops are just ten minutes away, while the black-and-white market town of Ledbury, Eastnor Castle and the Three Counties Showground are all within easy reach.
Further afield, visitors can tour the Morgan Motor Company, sample artisan produce at Hereford’s food markets, or kayak along the tranquil River Wye.
