Model Farm is a stunning country house set in the heart of Somerset, located in the village of Wembdon, near Bridgwater. Combining historic charm with modern comfort, the property features an impressive Victorian façade added to the original 17th-century farmhouse. Although surrounded by tranquil countryside, Model Farm Country House is just eight minutes from the centre of Bridgwater and within easy reach of the coast, the Quantock Hills, and the towns of Taunton, Glastonbury, and Wells. Numerous footpaths can be accessed directly from the house, including the Parrett Way, while the nearby village of Cannington — with its historic church, walled garden, shops, and pubs — offers a pleasant stroll.

About Model Farm

This versatile self-catering country house offers ten beautifully appointed bedrooms that can be arranged as either large doubles or singles, with additional beds available in some of the family rooms. In total, the property can accommodate up to 25 guests, making it ideal for large family gatherings, reunions, or group get-togethers.

Five of the bedrooms feature en-suite shower rooms, and there are three further bathrooms for guests’ convenience. All beds are new and exceptionally comfortable, as noted by previous guests. The décor includes antique furniture that reflects the elegance of the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, creating a warm and characterful atmosphere throughout.

The Victorian kitchen and dining room provides ample space for communal meals, complete with Royal Doulton crockery for large groups. In addition, the Cider Barn kitchen/diner, located next to the loggia, is perfectly suited for preparing food for outdoor cooking on the BBQ.

Grounds and Facilities

Model Farm sits within four acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, featuring thousands of plants and plenty of open space for outdoor activities such as croquet or football. Guests can relax and unwind in the large Scandinavian-style hot tub, which accommodates up to eight or nine people, or take a refreshing dip in the natural swimming pond.

Exploring Wembdon and Somerset

The property’s location makes it an ideal base for exploring the beauty and heritage of Somerset. The county is celebrated for its diverse natural landscapes, from the dramatic limestone formations and caves of Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole to the scenic Quantock and Mendip Hills, and the wild expanse of Exmoor National Park.

Situated in southern England's pristine wilderness, the farm provides immediate access to the lesser-known yet easily accessible beauty of the Quantocks.

Guests can explore the Jurassic coastline, within walking distance, and enjoy the hospitality of an award-winning, dog-friendly pub. The farm welcomes dogs, with facilities like stabling and turnout available for guests' horses. Groom’s Cottage can be opened up to connect with the main farmhouse for larger groups, accommodating up to 12 people. The farm also offers eight loose boxes for visitors' horses.

Damson Cottage is a delightful 17th century terraced cottage offering self-catering accommodation located in a conservation area at the edge of The Quantocks in Nether Stowey near Bridgwater. This holiday home has period features and is a lovely retreat for 4 adults who want a relaxing break away to the West Country.


Accommodation

There is a characterful, beamed sitting room with wood burner, digital TV/DVD player and radio/CD player. The dining room has seating for 4 to 6 people and overlooks the garden. The fully equipped kitchen has a sloping roof and beam and also overlooks the garden. There is a breakfast table in the kitchen with two chairs.

Upstairs there are two bedrooms - a double and a twin plus a bathroom with bath and electric shower over the bath.

There is a secluded garden with patio table and chairs, a lawned area and it is fully enclosed.

Local Area

Nether Stowey is an interesting and attractive village and has many surviving mediaeval buildings. Castle Street, where Damson Cottage is situated, leads up to the remains of Stowey Castle high above, where sheep now safely graze. From here you have views over the Quantocks, to the Mendips, to the sea and over to Wales. The poet Coleridge lived and wrote in the village and his house is open to the public (NT). The newly designated Coleridge Way starts here, continuing across the Brendon Hills, Exmoor and finishing in Porlock. The cottage is an ideal base for exploring this beautiful area with its moorland, woods, wildlife and wonderful views. For cyclists, the Quantocks have many cycling trails.

Model Farm is a stunning country house located in a lovely part of Somerset, at Wembdon near Bridgewater. Our holiday home has an imposing Victorian front that is a wonderful addition to the 17th Century farmhouse. Whilst in a rural setting Model Farm Country House is only 8 minutes from the centre of Bridgwater, close to the coast, Quantock Hills, and the towns of Taunton, Glastonbury and Wells. There are many footpaths in the area that can be accessed directly from the house, the Parrett Way passes nearby and the village of Cannington with its Church, walled garden, shops and pubs is a pleasant walk.

About Model Farm:
This self-catering country house is very versatile and has 10 bedrooms that can be set up as either large doubles or singles, with additional beds in some of the family rooms. This means that the house can accommodate up to 25 guests, ideal for family and friend get-togethers.

Five of the bedrooms have en suite shower rooms and there are 3 additional bathrooms. All the beds are new and previous guests have told us they are extremely comfortable. The furniture is mainly antique and in keeping with the late Victorian and Edwardian eras. The Victorian kitchen/dining room can seat large groups together with ample Royal Doulton crockery. The Cider Barn kitchen/diner is next to the loggia and is ideal for food preparation for cooking in the BBQ.

There are 4 acres of landscaped gardens with thousands of plants and plenty of room for games like croquet or football and a large Scandinavian-style hot tub with room for 8/9 people.

Somerset is world-renowned for its diverse natural beauty, from the remarkable Karst limestone landscapes and caves of Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole to inspiring areas of outstanding natural beauty, such as the Quantock and Mendip hills, and the Exmoor National Park.

Complementing nature, Somerset has a wealth of attractions, set amongst its many picturesque towns and villages; Glastonbury Tor, Wells Cathedral, The Bridgwater and Taunton Canal and cider mills galore.

Cossington Park is available on a self-catering basis for families and friends, reunions and as a retreat. There are 22 acres of superbly maintained gardens and grounds. The park is within the quaint village of Cossington. Spacious accommodation is available for 12-16 in Park House, 6 in Park Cottage and up to 22 with exclusive use of the estate.

Both can be let together or let separately, and both have private gardens but share the rest of the estate, children’s playground and table tennis room.

Activities like archery, falconry, ballooning and much more can be arranged from the gardens of Cossington Park. Catering and beauty treatments are also available.

Dobbie's Barn, Spaxton, Bridgwater, Somerset (Sleeps 1-4)


Dobbie’s Barn is a unique barn conversion and sits on its own grounds of half an acre. There are no other holiday lets nearby and it is situated on the edge of the village of Spaxton. It is extremely quiet and peaceful with footpaths around pleasant farmland, and beyond to the Quantocks for the more energetic.

Completely refurbished eight years ago, Dobbie’s Barn has a combination of comfortable modern accommodation together with the interesting and bespoke features that have been retained such as vaulted ceiling and exposed elm beams.

This holiday let has many visitors who return every year because it is so nice!

Just six miles from the North Somerset coast, Dobbie's Barn is a fifteen-minute drive to the nationally famous Steart Marshes bird reserves. To the west are the Quantock Hills and beyond is Exmoor and the coastal resort of Minehead. To the east lie the Mendip Hills with the interesting towns of Cheddar, Glastonbury and Wells. The market town of Bridgwater is a short drive and has a good range of supermarkets and a local museum. Clarke's Village Factory Shopping Centre in Street - a 30-minute drive - is well worth a visit to pick up some bargains!
