Accommodation
Originally built as a traditional croft house, Harbour Cottage enjoys a wonderful waterfront position with superb views across the Minch towards Skye, Rhum and the Scottish mainland.
The cottage has a comfortable lounge where guests can relax after a day exploring the island. There is also a fully equipped kitchen with a cooker, refrigerator, automatic washing machine and microwave, providing everything needed for a convenient self catering stay.
Upstairs, guests will find a cosy sun lounge with stunning views across the surrounding land and sea. It provides a lovely place to sit back and admire the ever-changing island scenery.
Harbour Cottage sleeps up to 6 people across three bedrooms. There is one double bedroom, one twin bedroom and a further bedroom containing both a double and a single bed. The upstairs bedrooms feature characterful sloping ceilings and are furnished with good-quality fittings.
The bathroom is located downstairs.
Heating is provided by a coal fire, along with storage and panel heaters throughout the cottage. All bed linen and towels are provided free of charge, although guests should note that coal is not supplied.
Outside Harbour Cottage
Outside, there is a beautiful open garden where guests can relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings and fresh island air.
The cottage's location beside the water also provides wonderful opportunities for wildlife watching without having to travel far.
Exploring the Isle of Barra
The coastline surrounding Harbour Cottage features numerous inlets and sandy coves. Seals can frequently be seen swimming into the bay, while the area is also home to a variety of birdlife, including herons, oystercatchers, cormorants and guillemots.
A short drive from the cottage leads to some of the island's beautiful golden sandy beaches, including those at Vatersay, Tangasdale and Eoligarry.
Barra is renowned for its spectacular unspoilt scenery and offers plenty to discover during a stay. One of the island's most distinctive sights can be experienced at Traigh Mhor, where scheduled aircraft famously use the beach as a runway.
Guests can also discover the island's fascinating history with a visit to Kisimul Castle, the historic stronghold of Clan MacNeil, or take trips to neighbouring islands to experience even more of the Western Isles.
The host, Eppa, is happy to provide guests with information about local places of interest and help them make the most of their time on the Isle of Barra.
