Model Farm is a stunning country house set in the heart of Somerset, located in the village of Wembdon, near Bridgwater. Combining historic charm with modern comfort, the property features an impressive Victorian façade added to the original 17th-century farmhouse. Although surrounded by tranquil countryside, Model Farm Country House is just eight minutes from the centre of Bridgwater and within easy reach of the coast, the Quantock Hills, and the towns of Taunton, Glastonbury, and Wells. Numerous footpaths can be accessed directly from the house, including the Parrett Way, while the nearby village of Cannington — with its historic church, walled garden, shops, and pubs — offers a pleasant stroll.

About Model Farm

This versatile self-catering country house offers ten beautifully appointed bedrooms that can be arranged as either large doubles or singles, with additional beds available in some of the family rooms. In total, the property can accommodate up to 25 guests, making it ideal for large family gatherings, reunions, or group get-togethers.

Five of the bedrooms feature en-suite shower rooms, and there are three further bathrooms for guests’ convenience. All beds are new and exceptionally comfortable, as noted by previous guests. The décor includes antique furniture that reflects the elegance of the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, creating a warm and characterful atmosphere throughout.

The Victorian kitchen and dining room provides ample space for communal meals, complete with Royal Doulton crockery for large groups. In addition, the Cider Barn kitchen/diner, located next to the loggia, is perfectly suited for preparing food for outdoor cooking on the BBQ.

Model Farm sits within four acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, featuring thousands of plants and plenty of open space for outdoor activities such as croquet or football. Guests can relax and unwind in the large Scandinavian-style hot tub, which accommodates up to eight or nine people, or take a refreshing dip in the natural swimming pond.

Exploring Wembdon and Somerset

The property’s location makes it an ideal base for exploring the beauty and heritage of Somerset. The county is celebrated for its diverse natural landscapes, from the dramatic limestone formations and caves of Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole to the scenic Quantock and Mendip Hills, and the wild expanse of Exmoor National Park.

In addition to its natural splendour, Somerset offers a wealth of cultural and historic attractions. Guests can visit Glastonbury Tor, Wells Cathedral, and the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal, or explore local cider mills and picturesque villages dotted throughout the countryside.
