Our two self-catering cottages (sleeping up to 6 and up to 4) each come with their own rowing boat and private wild brown trout fishing on one of Sutherland's most scenic lochs.
Just under two hours from Inverness, Borrobol is a secret and remote part of Britain, hardly touched by tourism. The estate lies at the heart of the north's peatlands, known as the Flow Country, where open moorland, wild trout fishing lochs and burns sit under wide skies. At one time a Viking settlement in the remote Strath of Kildonan, Borrobol is a family estate with a traditional working sheep farm by the banks of the famous River Helmsdale.
The Gardener's House is now a comfortable holiday house with a roaring fire and a well-equipped kitchen. The bedrooms have restored period fire-places, gabled windows, wooden floors, hanging space and chests of drawers. The comfortable sitting room looks west with a clear three-mile view to the faraway hills. An open fire burns coal or peat cut from traditional peat-banks on the estate. The kitchen has its original flagstone floor and traditional wooden furniture. Dishwasher, fridge/freezer and washing machine. A rough-grass garden is fenced and safe for young children.
Gardener's House and Crocdhu Cottage can be taken together for larger groups up to ten.
Crocdhu Cottage has been newly redecorated as a traditional single-storey, self-catering cottage with spectacularly open views of the hills. The light pours in from the west in the evenings when wild deer often come down to feed right by the house. Beautifully light open plan sitting room and kitchen with a woodburning stove and cosy dining room off them.
