Hargate Hall is a magnificent country house set within seven acres of beautiful parkland in the heart of the Peak District National Park, near Buxton and the village of Wormhill. This grand, carefully refurbished property offers twelve self-catering holiday apartments, each varying in size and style to accommodate between 2 and 10 guests. Altogether, the apartments can host up to 77 people, making Hargate Hall the ideal destination for family getaways, reunions, group holidays, or special celebrations in the stunning Derbyshire countryside.

Each apartment is designed for comfort and convenience, featuring at least one bathroom with either a shower or a shower-over-bath arrangement. The fully equipped kitchens include dining areas with tables and chairs, while the cosy living areas feature comfortable sofas, a TV, and a DVD player (except Hardwick, which has a Smart TV). Selected apartments—such as Balmoral, Windsor, and Sandringham—also include dishwashers. Bed linen is provided in all apartments, and towels can be hired for an additional fee. Electricity is supplied via a £1 coin meter system, with average daily costs of around £1. All apartments benefit from central heating, and communal areas are also centrally heated, with some rooms offering additional electric heating for extra comfort.

Accommodation

The Chatsworth Apartment

Chatsworth features one bedroom with a double bed and two single beds on a raised mezzanine. The spacious living area includes two sofas, providing ample room to relax. The bedroom can also accommodate a cot with some rearrangement of furniture.

The Haddon Apartment

Haddon offers one double bedroom with two additional single beds on a raised gallery. The living area includes two comfortable sofas, and like Chatsworth, the bedroom can fit a cot if needed.

The Hardwick Apartment

A cosy one-bedroom apartment ideal for couples, though it can sleep up to four people. It includes a double bed in the main bedroom and two single beds on a raised mezzanine. The compact living area features food preparation facilities and a sofa, best suited for two guests. Please note the bedroom cannot easily accommodate a cot.

The Welbeck Apartment

Welbeck includes one double bedroom and two single beds on a raised gallery, sleeping up to four guests. The spacious living room has a large settee and a comfortable armchair, with the bedroom adaptable to include a cot if required.

The Ashbourne Apartment

Sleeping up to eight guests, Ashbourne includes two bedrooms: one with a king-size bed and bunk beds, and another with a double bed and bunk beds. The large living room features two settees, and the bedrooms and bathroom are located downstairs in the converted basement for added privacy.

The Bakewell Apartment

A spacious two-bedroom apartment sleeping up to eight guests. It features a double bedroom and four single sleeping spaces on a raised gallery. There are two bathrooms—one on the ground floor and one in the converted basement. The basement bedrooms, however, are not suitable for cots.

The Castleton Apartment

This two-bedroom apartment accommodates up to six guests. One bedroom includes a king-size bed and two single sleeping areas on a raised gallery, while the turret bedroom features a stunning four-poster king-size bed. Both rooms can fit a cot. The apartment includes a fully equipped kitchen and a generous living area with two sofas.

The Eyam Apartment

Eyam comfortably sleeps up to six people in two bedrooms—one with a double bed and one with a double bed and bunk beds. It also includes a galley kitchen, shower room, and a spacious living area with two sofas and a dining space, ideal for families or small groups.

The Sandringham Apartment

Sandringham sleeps up to eight guests across two bedrooms. One includes a double bed and bunk beds, while the other offers a double bed with two single mattresses on a raised mezzanine. The large living room provides ample seating with three sofas, and the kitchen is fitted with a dishwasher. Both bedrooms can accommodate a cot.

The Tissington Apartment

Located on the first floor, Tissington offers scenic views and sleeps up to six people. It has two bedrooms—one twin and one with a double bed plus two additional single beds on a raised gallery. While not ideal for cot use, the apartment includes a spacious living room with two sofas, perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring.

The Balmoral Apartment

The largest apartment at Hargate Hall, Balmoral features three bedrooms: one with a double bed, one with a king-size bed, and one with bunk beds. A raised mezzanine provides additional sleeping space with a double bed and two single mattresses. The apartment has a large living area with three sofas, one bathroom, and one shower room. The bunk bedroom can accommodate a cot, making it ideal for families or larger groups of up to ten guests.

The Windsor Apartment

Windsor is a spacious ground-floor apartment with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, including one en suite. It can accommodate up to nine guests. The first bedroom features a double bed, bunk beds, and an en suite. The second room includes a single bed and bunk beds, and the third has two single beds. Both bunk rooms can fit a cot if required. The large living area includes three sofas, and the bedrooms and bathrooms are located downstairs in the converted basement, offering peace and privacy.

Candlelight Cottage in Litton provides fantastic self-catering accommodation, perfect for an unforgettable getaway. We are close to Buxton and in a great position for exploring Derbyshire.

Accommodation:

Our recently renovated cottage has been beautifully furnished, offering 5-star gold award-winning accommodation. The accommodation has been finished to the highest standards, ideal for a tranquil holiday in a brilliant location.

You can unwind in the large oak-beamed sitting room that boasts a feature stone fireplace, a 43’’ UHD smart TV, free Wi-Fi and an Alexa Echo Dot. The room is adorned with Chinese prints and enjoys glorious views over the Litton village garden.

Enjoy some home cooking in the south-facing dining kitchen which is well-equipped with a ceramic hob, oven, microwave, fridge, dishwasher and washing machine. The pine shutters, slate tiled floor and AGA stove ensure the kitchen is brimming with character and charm. Stairs lead out of the kitchen down to the utility room, which houses the deep freezer, and other utility items.

Two gorgeous bedrooms are available. The south-facing double room has a Victorian-style bed and enjoys garden and field views. A lovely twin room has a Victorian cast iron fireplace and offers delightful views over the green and Litton Edge. Both rooms share a fully tiled bathroom that features a bath, separate shower cubicle, Edwardian-style suite and heated towel rail.

Outside there is an enclosed and private patio-style garden with garden seating and a BBQ for al fresco dining over a glass or two.

Visiting Litton & Exploring Derbyshire:

Litton is a picturesque village, home to lots of 17th and early 18th Century houses, a large village green and a charming village pub. The village is just 4 miles northwest of Bakewell and 1 mile east of Tideswell, home of the Cathedral of the Peak. Only a 20-minute drive away are the bustling markets towns of Buxton and Bakewell, plus the majestic stately homes of Chatsworth and Haddon Hall. Superb attractions to visit include:

Vicarage Cottage, Hollinsclough, Buxton, Derbyshire, Peak District National Park (Sleeps 1-5)

Vicarage Cottage at Hollinsclough, near Buxton, sleeps five and is part of what was once the Parsonage and then the Vicarage of the village. With the Methodist chapel beside it, it has featured in much of the Peak District literature over the years.

The bright and cheerful south-facing sitting room was once the room where the Vicar or Parson would have received his parishioners and entertained. On entering, one is drawn to the sash windows with their attractive shutters and mouldings. With its fireplace and panelled doors, this is a delightful room to relax and unwind. (The open fire can be used and firewood will be provided.) There is a TV, DVD player and stereo in this room.

There is an opening off the sitting room with a small study area.

The welcoming traditional kitchen is well equipped with a large fridge/freezer, dishwasher, clothes washer, sandwich toaster and a microwave oven. There is a large table that can seat six comfortably. Facing East, this room gets the morning sun.

Above the sitting room is an airy double bedroom with two sash windows. There are three beds two of which can be grouped as a double. The room has a loo, basin en suite and a second TV.

A second double bedroom also looks out towards Crome Hill.

The bathroom has another loo, a bath with a shower attachment, an electric shaver facility above the basin, and an electric towel rail.

Hollinsclough is a charming friendly village in the remarkable country where the sounds are the distant rumble of a passing tractor, cows and chickens going about their daily life and the stream running down to the River Dove.

Greens Farm is over 300 years old and is set in a beautiful, rural part of Derbyshire. It is part of a 25-acre smallholding and is an ideal base for those who want to explore the Peak District National Park. From the front of the cottage you can enjoy views over the old toll house, the River Dane and towards the Macclesfield road.

Quarnford is the most northerly parish in Staffordshire and is close to the village of Flash (now officially the highest village in Britain). It is an ideal base for exploring Derbyshire as it is within comfortable driving distance of many attractions and places of interest. 

 The popular Derbyshire market town of Bakewell is around 20 miles away and both Chatsworth House & Haddon Hall are nearby. For those who want to spend the day at the Alton Towers Theme Park, this is only a 30 minute drive away.
