Hogchester Cottage offers wonderful self catering accommodation in Charmouth near Bridport. Nestled on a beautiful 75 acre farm in a tranquil rural location, we are a haven for wildlife and boast wildflower meadows, rewilding areas, ponds and a woodland. As seen on BBC’s ‘Wild Isles’ with Sir David Attenborough, we are perfect for a memorable getaway.

Hogchester Cottage

We are the perfect place to escape from the pressures of modern life: whether it’s exploring nature trails or strolling through gorgeous meadows, we offer a true rural paradise for city dwellers. You might even see one of our friendly free goats or chickens roaming around. Our family friendly farm is also home to 12 Pygmy goats led by ‘Elvis’, their affable ram. Children can enjoy the unique experience of daily feeding or collect eggs from our charming rainbow flock of chickens.

Our idyllic cottage is perfect for sinking into simple living. Whether you choose to relax in front of the cosy wood-burner in the chilly winter evenings or unwind in the pretty rose covered terrace on a summer afternoon, Hogchester Cottage is a haven in all seasons. The spacious kitchen has a traditional AGA and a dining area with views across the fields to the sea. Our cheeky guinea fowl often pop in at the window to say hello! The lounge comes with a log burner, TV and DVD player. There is a large range of boardgames, books and DVDs to keep you occupied. A downstairs WC is also available.

Upstairs there is a king room and a twin room with fantastic views down to the sea. There is also an eco friendly wooden cot if you are travelling with a baby.

There is 75 acres of land to enjoy. Across from the cottage there is a peaceful garden area with table and chairs. Its surrounded by rambling roses and has beautiful views to the sea.

Children can enjoy the tyre swing in the old stables. Extra activities include stream navigation and family campfire night or a stargazer experience. We can happily offer handy tips for exploring the land, seeing new wildlife and getting the best picnic spots available.

Visiting Charmouth & Exploring Dorset

Set in a tranquil location of orchards and fields Hogchester Cottage is also incredibly accessible - its long driveway linked directly to the A35. It's a five minute drive to the pretty Charmouth beaches and ten minutes to the centre of the historic harbour town of Lyme Regis with its famous Cobb and fossil-packed beach and cliffs.

Charmouth is an unspoilt traditional village with a wonderful family beach. Charmouth beach is a mixture of sand and pebbles, fossils, clean sea and safe swimming. The beach is divided into two by the mouth of the River Char which is often dammed by the beach forming a lagoon suitable for boating or watching the many ducks and swans. The Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre has lots of displays that can help you discover how to find your very own fossils to take home. They also run guided fossil walks throughout the year. The beach is a UNESCO world heritage site.

Bakers Mill Farm Holiday Cottages are dog-friendly, wheelchair accessible holiday cottages in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in West Dorset.

These cottages are all built of locally sourced stone and have a rustic charm with modern interiors. They have high vaulted ceilings in many instances with exposed beams adding to their character. Warm and cosy, but also, as most have dual aspect windows, bright and airy at the same time.

Threshers Barn is a Grade 2 listed stone barn & is full of character with exposed beams and high vaulted ceilings giving it a light, airy feel. Enclosed courtyard garden overlooking the fields.

Harvest Cottage is wheelchair accessible. This cottage is built of locally sourced stone with the wheelchair user in mind and is very spacious. Good for the mobility impaired too as there are no steps, only ramps. Car parking space immediately outside the cottage. Enclosed courtyard garden overlooking the fields.

Millers Cottage is on one level, this cottage is cosy but maintains a light, airy feel due to high vaulted ceilings in the living area which is open-plan with kitchen and dining area. Enclosed lawn garden overlooking fields.

The Wheatsheaf is very spacious & also on one level, with exposed beams and vaulted ceilings giving a cosy but airy feel to the cottage. Enclosed lawn garden overlooking fields and farm.

The Granary boasts immense charm and character, low beamed ceiling in the sitting room, high vaulted beamed ceilings in the kitchen and bedroom. With the rill running outside the door this is a lovely cottage to sit out in the evenings and listen to the sound of the running water and watch the night sky.

The Cobb is light, airy very spacious cottage but still feels cosy. Vaulted ceilings and exposed beams throughout. The enclosed garden is at the back, approached alongside the wildlife pond, which is adjacent to the cottage and there are also dining table and chairs alongside the rill at the front.

Minnies Cottage is a 17th Century thatched cottage in a quiet cul-de-sac at the heart of the attractive village of Burton Bradstock. It is 10 minutes walk through the fields to Chesil Beach and the acclaimed Hive Cafe. The beach and adjacent foreshore are clean and unspoilt and easily reached with a car park.

The cottage comfortably sleeps 4 adults.

Downstairs is open plan with the kitchen separated from the dining/sitting area by a marble-topped bar. The living area has comfortable easy chairs for four, around a beamed fireplace. Upstairs is a double and twin bedded room where a third temporary bed can be made upon request. All linen including towels is supplied. 

The cottage has its own wholly enclosed garden with lawn and patio facing south and it is secure for young children. Parking is on the street, close to the cottage.

Burton Bradstock is 2.5 miles from Bridport on the route to Weymouth and central to the Jurassic Coast, World Heritage Site one of the most beautiful areas of the south-west, with outstanding scenery in all directions along the coast and moving inland. Within a reasonable radius, there are several places of natural or historical interest, as well as many family attractions.

Our properties are surrounded by 2 acres of gardens and a paddock with a large duck pond. We have a BBQ hut for family get-togethers of up to 15 people that will ensure rain or shine a warm cosy place to have some fun. You can enjoy many delightful walks in the surrounding area and there are dozens of tourist attractions locally. If you wish to fish, walk, and horse-ride or play golf, there are facilities within a short drive. If you wish to travel further, the lovely Dorset coast is within easy reach.


Middlemarsh is in rural Dorset and surrounded by miles and miles of glorious unspoilt Hardy countryside. Lying between the historic towns of Sherborne, Dorchester and Cerne Abbas. Our cottages and farmhouse are within easy reach of local inns which all serve good food and fine Dorset ales in a friendly atmosphere. We are also only 150 yards from the Hunters Moon pub next door.
