Eden Valley Breaks, Kirkoswald, Penrith, Cumbria

Eden Valley Breaks rests in a valley near the quiet hamlet of Staffield, offering six cosy self-catering cottages with access to exclusive fishing on two private lakes and along a stretch of Croglin Water. Set in the heart of the picturesque Eden Valley, it provides an ideal base for exploring the Lake District, the Pennines, the Scottish Borders and the Yorkshire Dales, placing some of the region’s most beautiful landscapes within easy reach.

The Fisherman’s Walk Cottages – Each Sleep 2

Guests staying in one of the four Fisherman’s Walk cottages can wake up to the soft glow of morning light shimmering across a still lake, where carp are often seen gliding just below the surface on bright summer days. The two lakes feature five well-placed pegs, giving visitors the chance to enjoy tranquil fishing only steps from their door. Each cottage is thoughtfully prepared for a relaxing break, complete with an open-plan kitchen and dining area, fresh linens, a modern shower, a complimentary bottle of wine, a smart TV and superfast broadband.

The Barley Mow and The Steading – Each Sleep 4

These spacious, traditional sandstone cottages were once part of the original farmstead and are ideal for families. Each property includes its own kitchen and comfortable lounge, along with superfast broadband, ample parking and peaceful views across the fields towards Croglin Water. The fishing lakes sit less than 30 yards from the doorstep and have been home to healthy stocks of carp and roach for more than 25 years. The fish are easy to spot gliding through the water, but landing one requires patience and a little skill, making the experience all the more rewarding.

Depending on the time of year, guests may spot – or sometimes hear – bullfinches, egrets, buzzards, geese, slow worms, red squirrels, elephant hawk moths, roe deer, newts, barn owls and kingfishers.

Pets are warmly welcomed, and dogs have plenty of space to roam thanks to the secure dog run, wide gardens and excellent nearby walking routes.

Visiting the Area

Eden Valley Breaks is perfectly placed for exploring the region. Ullswater’s steamer cruises, Hadrian’s Wall and the renowned Settle to Carlisle railway—accessible at Lazonby, just four miles away—are all within easy reach. The Lake District, the Scottish Borders and the Yorkshire Dales are close by, while Penrith and Carlisle lie around 12 miles away. Newcastle can be reached in just over an hour.
