Barnacre Holiday Cottages, Saughall Massie, Wirral, Cheshire (Sleeps 1-8)

Barnacre Cottages are three, beautifully appointed holiday homes, nestled in a lovely part of Cheshire in the historic village of Saughall Massie near Wirral. The village dates to the 1300s and is a great base for those who want a relaxing breakaway. All three cottages have their own private hot tub/jacuzzi, plus the shared use of the heated indoor pool and the one-acre Barnacre fishing lake.

About Barnacre Holiday Cottages:
Much care and attention have been put into every holiday home, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable stay is had by all. Two of the cottages, The Old Mill Barn and The Shippon, occupy a 250-year-old barn conversion, while the third, Barnacre Green, is a recent, green oak frame cottage which has zero environmental impact.

Guests to all cottages have access to our onsite facilities and amenities, which includes:

Swimming pool - housed in a lovely oak frame building, it is shared between our three cottages and is available between 10 am and 4 pm every day (except Christmas Day). An informal booking system ensures its private use for each family or party staying with us. There is also a playground for children.

Hot tub - Each cottage has its own private outdoor hot tub/jacuzzi; each can seat 5/6 adults and has lighting and aromatherapy built-in. In addition, there is a shared indoor hot tub next to the heated pool.

Fishing lake - Our one-acre private fishing lake is so well stocked even novices and children are pretty much guaranteed to catch something. However, the lake also contains many wily large specimen fish which will keep even the keenest angler hooked!

The Shippon Barn:
This has been designed especially with children in mind. Its three bedrooms – one single and two double – sleep 5/7 people. Many of the original features of the ancient barn have been preserved; much timbering is exposed and the owl flight holes and archers' windows are preserved and snugly glazed, giving the bedrooms a unique charm. The atmosphere is completed with flagstone flooring and a wood-burning stove downstairs and oak floors upstairs.

The Old Mill Barn:
Set on a charming small courtyard and with a private garden, the Old Mill’s oak and granite kitchen/dining room is awash with blue-and-white china and high-quality equipment, fittings and furnishings. It exudes a comforting sense of peace which springs from the barn’s long history and sensitive conversion. The exposed beams, original brickwork and sandstone floors of the old mill are made snug with underfloor heating, thick carpeting and tasteful furnishings.

The Green Cottage – As seen on TV:
A secluded and private cottage that is 400 metres beyond our other holiday homes. All on one level, it can sleep 6/8 in two family bedrooms (each with a double and single bed) plus the sofa bed in the living area. All the materials in the construction and fitting were selected for their low environmental and carbon impact, there is not a lick of paint anywhere (we use limewash), and Barnacre Green cottage is self-sufficient for all energy, water and wastewater. There is also a charming shepherds hut that sleeps 4 people, combing with Green Cottage to sleep 12 people.

Saughall Massie is ideally located for exploring this lovely part of Cheshire. Within comfortable driving distance, you can reach an array of attractions and places of interest.

Wirral is packed with things to do; vibrant Liverpool and historic Chester are minutes away and Manchester, Snowdonia, the Peak District and the Lake District are all within easy reach for days out. Whether you are looking for a slow-paced weekend break or a fantastic base for a full-on family holiday, staying in one of the Barnacre Cottages is a perfect choice.
