Once the main farm for the Earls of Portsmouth’s Eggesford Estate, the property has been carefully converted and renovated to a high standard while respecting the constraints of its Grade II listed status. With a history spanning over 300 years, the house offers an abundance of charm and character.

Each room at Eggesford Barton is stylishly furnished, comfortable and notably spacious, something frequently remarked upon by guests. The house is surrounded by beautiful countryside and woodland and sits along the Tarka Trail, a well-known route through North Devon that is particularly popular with walkers.

Guests can book exclusive use of Eggesford Barton House, which can accommodate up to 30 people. Many visitors choose to stay for a long weekend or a full week with extended family or friends, often to celebrate special occasions. Outside caterers can also be arranged on request, although advance notice is recommended.

For families with children, the property offers an enclosed outdoor play area along with 30 acres of land to explore. There is also an indoor games room equipped with a Nintendo Wii, table tennis and a pool table.

Visiting the Area

Dogs are welcome at Eggesford Barton, and the surrounding countryside and nearby Eggesford Forest provide beautiful walking opportunities. For fishing enthusiasts, the River Taw, renowned for its salmon and trout fishing, is just a 10-minute walk away and guests are welcome to fish free of charge.

Horry Mill's location, down a private drive next to Hollocombe Water, provides easy access to a variety of walking trails through surrounding woodland. The area is rich in wildlife, and visitors may spot owls and pied flycatchers thanks to the nest boxes placed around the property.

For local amenities, the nearby village of Winkleigh has an excellent general store, post office, butcher, two public houses, and a tea shop. A farm shop is also conveniently located within two miles. Those looking to explore further afield can visit Saunton village, approximately two miles from Braunton on the North Devon coast. Saunton Sands beach is part of the Taw Torridge Estuary, which forms one of the UK’s only UNESCO biosphere reserves. Exmoor is also nearby, offering stunning landscapes, a sense of wilderness, and peaceful relaxation.
