Visiting the Area

Everyday amenities are conveniently close by, with local shops in Gardenstown just a 15-minute walk along the beach, while a wider range of shops can be found in Banff, 10 miles to the west, and Fraserburgh, 15 miles to the east. Nearby pubs are located in Gardenstown and Pennan, the latter famously featured in the film Local Hero. The dramatic coastal cliffs surrounding Crovie offer superb walking routes and opportunities to spot seabirds such as puffins, guillemots and razorbills. The sea provides moments of peaceful reflection as well as the chance to spot dolphins in the Moray Firth, with Crovie uniquely positioned to face the setting sun. Winter stays often reward guests with clear, star-filled skies and occasional sightings of the Northern Lights.

Within an hour’s drive, visitors can explore more than 60 castles, numerous whisky distilleries and the city of Aberdeen. Slightly further afield, Braemar, Balmoral, seasonal skiing in the Cairngorms and the city of Inverness can all be reached in around two hours by car, offering a wealth of options for days out.
