Number 13 Crovie Cottage, Crovie, Gardenstown, Banffshire

Number 13, Crovie Cottage is beautifully situated at the foot of dramatic 300-foot cliffs on the stunning Banffshire coast, approximately 40 miles north of Aberdeen. Set within the historic fishing village of Crovie, the cottage enjoys a truly unique coastal location and is just a short drive from the charming nearby village of Gardenstown, making it an excellent base for exploring this unspoilt stretch of Scotland’s coastline.

Accommodation

The cottage provides comfortable, well-equipped accommodation for up to six guests and has been fully refurbished in recent years to a high standard. On the ground floor, there is a fitted kitchen with underfloor heating, a welcoming sitting room with an open fire, a double bedroom located adjacent to the kitchen and bathroom, a hallway and a bathroom with shower and shaver point. The property is fully electric, with wall heaters in every room, ensuring year-round comfort.

Stairs lead to a small landing and two bright twin bedrooms, each featuring Velux roof lights that fill the rooms with natural light. Modern amenities include hot water via an immersion heater, fridge freezer, microwave, electric cooker, washer and dryer, TV, video and DVD player, an iPod dock and complimentary WiFi, providing everything needed for a relaxed self-catering stay. The cottage sleeps six guests comfortably across four single beds and one double bed, all fitted with continental quilts. Bed linen is included for up to three guests, with a small additional charge applicable for extra occupants.

Visiting the Area

Everyday amenities are conveniently close by, with local shops in Gardenstown just a 15-minute walk along the beach, while a wider range of shops can be found in Banff, 10 miles to the west, and Fraserburgh, 15 miles to the east. Nearby pubs are located in Gardenstown and Pennan, the latter famously featured in the film Local Hero. Golf enthusiasts are well catered for, with the renowned Duff House Royal and Royal Tarlair courses located in Banff and Macduff.

Duff House itself forms part of the National Galleries of Scotland collection and provides an excellent option for an occasional rainy day. The dramatic coastal cliffs surrounding Crovie offer superb walking routes and opportunities to spot seabirds such as puffins, guillemots and razorbills. The sea provides moments of peaceful reflection as well as the chance to spot dolphins in the Moray Firth, with Crovie uniquely positioned to face the setting sun. Winter stays often reward guests with clear, star-filled skies and occasional sightings of the Northern Lights.

Within an hour’s drive, visitors can explore more than 60 castles, numerous whisky distilleries and the city of Aberdeen. Slightly further afield, Braemar, Balmoral, seasonal skiing in the Cairngorms and the city of Inverness can all be reached in around two hours by car, offering a wealth of options for days out.

Number 13 Crovie Cottage, Crovie, Gardenstown, Banffshire (Sleeps 1-6)

Number 13, Crovie Cottage is situated at the foot of dramatic 300ft cliffs on the Banffshire coast, approximately 40 miles north of Aberdeen. It is also just a short drive from Gardenstown.

Downstairs - kitchen, sitting room, double bedroom (adjacent to kitchen and bathroom), hallway, bathroom (inc shaver point and shower). All electric with wall heaters in all rooms, underfloor heating in the kitchen and an open fire in the sitting room. Stairs leading to two twin bedrooms and a small landing, all with Velux roof-lights. The property has been totally refurbished in recent years. Hot water is by immersion heater, there is a shower, fridge/freezer, TV, video, DVD, iPod dock, free Wi-Fi, microwave, electric cooker and a washer/dryer (under the stairs). The house sleeps 6 people comfortably (4 single beds and one double, with continental quilts on each).

The nearest shops are in Gardenstown (15 minute walk along the beach), or for a greater selection, 10 miles west, Banff (pop.4000), and 15 miles east, Fraserburgh (pop. 13000). The closest pubs are in Gardenstown (1½ miles) and Pennan (6 miles); the village made famous by the film 'Local Hero'. For the golfer, Banff and Macduff have 2 regal courses, Duff House Royal and Royal Tarlair. Duff House in Banff is part of The National Galleries for Scotland collection, providing a major attraction for the (very) occasional rainy day.

The nearby cliffs offer exhilarating walks and views of perching seabirds, including puffins (Apr-Aug), guillemots and razorbills. Not surprisingly the sea provides much entertainment, whether it be the contemplation of life, catching dinner or watching Moray Firth dolphins. Interestingly, Crovie is possibly the only village on the East coast that faces the setting sun! In the winter months, you are often rewarded with clear starry nights and occasional displays of The Northern Lights.

Within a one hour drive from Crovie, there are over 60 castles (in various states of repair), many distilleries (often with guided tours), and the City of Aberdeen. Slightly further afield are Braemar and Balmoral, skiing in the Cairngorms (seasonal!), and Inverness (all about 2hrs by car).
