The Malthouse is a spacious self-catering property near Bath in Somerset, perfect for large groups, families and friends, as well as special occasions such as weddings, baby showers, birthdays and anniversaries. Parts of the house date back to the 15th century, and it has been lovingly restored to provide modern comfort while retaining its historic charm. With seven bedrooms accommodating up to fourteen guests, the house offers everything needed for a relaxing and memorable stay.
Accommodation
The property features two sitting rooms, including the main lounge with an inviting inglenook fireplace that creates a cosy atmosphere on cooler evenings. Comfortable sofas, warm lighting, large cushions and throws make it a welcoming place to unwind, and a work table is available for those needing a quiet spot to work from home. Beyond this lounge is the spacious garden room, which overlooks the beautifully kept garden, the church of St Philip and St James and the surrounding landscape. This bright, elegant room is ideal for family games, quiet reading in the window seats or enjoying the 50-inch smart TV.
From the cartway entrance, guests enter the handmade kitchen and dining room, which includes a working stone fireplace and a large pine table seating up to fourteen people. The kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances, including a brand-new double range oven, a gas hob and a generous selection of cookware, serving dishes and gadgets. A utility room in the basement provides a washing machine, tumble dryer, an extra tall fridge and additional storage, along with a cot and high chair for young children.
Across three floors, the house offers seven elegant bedrooms accessed via a charming turret staircase with a rope bannister. Four bedrooms and two bathrooms are located on the first floor, while two further bedrooms and a shared bathroom sit on the second floor, lending the property a storybook character. Each bedroom features Egyptian cotton linen, soft furnishings, wooden floors with rugs, bedside tables and comfortable seating. Storage is thoughtfully provided with hooks and large chests rather than wardrobes. Four bathrooms in total serve the house, each sympathetically restored with modern comforts while preserving original features and beams.
Outside, The Malthouse enjoys a spacious courtyard and a long, south-west facing garden ideal for alfresco dining and barbecues. Guests will find large tables, benches, a comfortable outdoor sofa and blankets for lounging on the grass. Lavender-lined paths, colourful bedding plants and the warm Bath stone create a Mediterranean feel on sunny days.
The Garden House can also be booked alongside The Malthouse to accommodate an additional two guests.
