The Old Sunday School Room

The Old Sunday School Room offers self-catering accommodation near the village of Trecastle in Powys. Situated close to the Brecon Beacons National Park, it provides an excellent base for exploring stunning waterfalls, forests, and some of the most beautiful countryside in Wales.

Accommodation

The cottage accommodates between four and six guests, making it ideal for families, couples, or small groups. Tastefully renovated throughout, it offers comfortable accommodation and lovely views across the surrounding countryside.

The first floor features a fully equipped kitchen with everything guests need for a self-catering stay, including a fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, oven, and touchscreen hob. A dining area overlooks the breathtaking countryside, creating the perfect setting for meals and relaxation.

The comfortable lounge includes a log-burning stove, flat-screen TV with Freesat, DVD player, and shelves stocked with books, guides, and board games. Also on the first floor is a cloakroom containing a toilet, washbasin, shower, washing machine, and drying space.

On the ground floor, there are two bedrooms. The first is a spacious room with a double bed, sofa bed, and enough space for a cot. This room also benefits from a Freesat TV and DVD player. The second bedroom contains two single beds. Both bedrooms share a family bathroom equipped with a bath, overhead shower, washbasin, and toilet.

Outside, guests can enjoy a BBQ, perfect for al fresco dining while taking in the peaceful surroundings.

Visiting the Area

The Old Sunday School Room is ideally situated for exploring a wide range of attractions and places of interest. Visitors can discover The Hall at Abbey-Cwm-Hir, explore the Brecon Beacons National Park, or climb the highest mountain in southern Britain. The area also offers excellent walking and cycling opportunities.

Located nearby in Llangorse, the Llangorse Multi Activity Centre provides a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, including abseiling, rock climbing, zip wires, BMX riding, and horse riding.

Ynysfaen Camping & Glamping, Trecastle, Brecon, Powys


This small, family-run campsite is located just two miles from Trecastle and around 20 minutes west of Brecon, set within the stunning Brecon Beacons National Park, now recognised as one of the world’s Dark Sky Reserves. The charming old farmhouse sits within five acres of peaceful countryside, creating a picturesque and tranquil setting.

Shepherd’s Hut
The bespoke, dog-free shepherd’s hut, beautifully handcrafted in Wales, offers a cosy and private retreat for two adults, ideal for short breaks or longer stays. It features a separate, fully equipped enclosed kitchen with a gas hob, fridge, cooking essentials, seating area and a wood burner for added comfort. Guests can dine indoors or outside and enjoy a private enclosed garden with outdoor seating. Bedding, towels, electricity and initial supplies of wood and charcoal are all included for a relaxing stay.

Ynysfaen Cabin
The handmade one-bedroom cabin provides a cosy and well-equipped space, featuring a kitchenette with a hob, microwave and essential utensils, along with tea and coffee provided. The bedroom includes a comfortable double bed, while the living area has a sofa bed, allowing accommodation for up to four guests, making it ideal for families or friends. An electric radiator and log burner ensure comfort during cooler months. Outside, a private decking area with a fire pit and BBQ offers a perfect place to unwind. The cabin also includes a storage shed and a daily electricity allowance, with additional usage available if required. Pets are welcome by arrangement, with space for up to two medium-sized dogs.

Empty Bell Tent
The 5-metre empty bell tent offers a simple, back-to-basics camping experience for up to four guests. It does not include electricity or cooking facilities, but guests have access to on-site showers, toilets, a fridge and washing facilities, as well as picnic benches for outdoor dining. Please note that pets are not permitted in the bell tent, and there is no power, Wi-Fi or mobile phone reception on site.

The site also offers four campervan pitches and additional camping pitches for tents.

Visiting the Area
Cwmwysg, near Trecastle, is perfectly positioned for exploring the dramatic landscapes of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Visitors can enjoy scenic walks to Llyn y Fan Fach and Llyn y Fan Fawr beneath the Black Mountain peaks or take on Pen y Fan, the highest mountain in South Wales. The nearby market town of Brecon offers independent shops, cafés and access to the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, ideal for gentle walks and cycling. With waterfalls, open moorland and exceptional dark skies for stargazing, the area offers a perfect blend of adventure and tranquillity.

Ynysfaen Camping & Glamping provides accommodation within a Shepherds Hut and Bell Tent. The family-run site also provides space for camping and campervans. It is just 2 miles from Trecastle. This is a beautiful area west of Brecon and the Brecon Beacons National Park.

The handcrafted Shepherds Hut can accommodate 2 people in a double bed. This cosy Shepherds Hut is well equipped and includes:

The Bell Tent is 5 metres and has a wooden base. It can also accommodate 2 people in a double bed. Just like the Shepherds Hut it comes well equipped so you can travel light.

This area is a haven for outdoor activities. There is fishing available on the Usk Reservoir, plenty of footpaths and cycle paths plus areas for horse riding.

The Old Sunday School Room offers self-catering accommodation next to the beautiful Hydfer River close to the village of Trecaslte in Powys. The self-catering accommodation is situated close to the Brecon Beacons National Park where there are stunning waterfalls, forests and the highest peak in southern Britain.

The self-catering cottage has a fully equipped kitchen that offers everything guests will need including a fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, oven and touchscreen hob. There is also a dining area that looks out over the breathtaking countryside.


The local area offers a range of attractions and great places to visit including The Hall at Abbey-Cwm-Hir which is a Grade II listed mansion offering fifty-two rooms in twelve acres of beautiful gardens.

Of course, seeing the highest mountain in southern Britain is a must as well as exploring the Brecon Beacons where there are great walking and cycling opportunities.

Located in Llangorse you will find Llangorse Multi Activity Centre where there is a range of indoor and outdoor activities available including abseiling, rock climbing, zip wires, BMX riding and horse riding.
