Discover Loch Awe
Stretching for more than 26 miles and reaching around a mile wide in places, Loch Awe is one of Scotland’s largest freshwater lochs. In some areas, its waters reach depths of approximately 300 feet.
As well as providing an impressive backdrop for walks and days out, Loch Awe has long been popular with anglers. It is particularly well known for its ferox trout, large predatory brown trout which feed on other fish and can consequently grow to an impressive size.
The loch has produced several notable catches over the years, including a ferox trout caught in March 2002 which weighed an extraordinary 31lb 12oz.
Brown trout are also found throughout the loch, alongside species including pike, perch, Arctic char and occasional rainbow trout escapees, while sea trout and salmon may also be encountered.
With peaceful accommodation, beautiful Highland scenery and Loch Awe close at hand, The Old School is an inviting choice for couples, families and pet owners looking to experience this wonderful part of Argyll.
