Sawmill Cottage offers superb self-catering accommodation near Coniston Water in Cumbria. This stunning 18th-century cottage provides an ideal setting for a special holiday in the Lake District.

Accommodation

The cottage sleeps up to eight people and is stylishly and beautifully furnished, offering a wide range of facilities to suit guests’ needs.

The main sitting room is spacious and light, featuring large French doors and floor-to-ceiling windows that open onto the patio, creating a wonderful space to enjoy views of the river. The room includes three large sofas, a log fire and a large-screen Smart TV. Adjacent to this is the dining room and kitchen. The well-equipped kitchen boasts high-end appliances, including a five-ring electric hob, two electric ovens, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, built-in microwave and an internet radio with Spotify. The dining area seats eight people and also features a log fire and sofa, providing a cosy and sociable space.

All bedrooms offer a luxurious experience, furnished with Sealy Posturepedic beds and mattresses. The main bedroom has a king-size bed and French doors opening onto a spacious balcony overlooking the garden and river. This room also benefits from en suite facilities. There are two additional king en suite bedrooms and one super king room. One of the en suite bathrooms features an elegant French cast iron roll-top bath. On the third floor, a games room provides entertainment with a Wii games console, a selection of games, a sofa and a TV.

Outside, there is an enclosed garden with a decking area, garden furniture and a built-in charcoal BBQ. Part of the garden runs down to the River Crake, which flows out of Coniston Water. The cottage also benefits from private fishing rights directly in front of the property.

Visiting Coniston Water & Exploring Cumbria

Coniston Water is approximately five miles long and half a mile wide, with the lake situated around half a mile from the village. Visitors can hire boats and bikes from the Coniston Boating Centre. There are many attractions in the local area, including the Laurel and Hardy Museum, The Cumbrian Way, Conishead Priory, The Hoad Monument and Ford Park.

Rates range from £1,200 to £2,600 per week, depending on the season. Short breaks are available. The cottage accommodates a maximum of eight people. Children and pets are welcome. Wi-Fi/internet access is provided, and there is an electric car charging point on site.

Ardlui Lodges

The lodges are ideal for families and smaller groups seeking privacy while still enjoying direct access to the loch and its spectacular surroundings. Each lodge has been thoughtfully designed to blend comfort, style and practicality, creating a welcoming retreat after a day of exploring or outdoor activity.

Each of the eight lodges features three generously sized double bedrooms, two high-quality wet rooms with underfloor heating, a private hot tub and a dedicated outdoor living area, along with a designated parking space. The interiors are warm and inviting, with rich colours, luxurious fabrics and carefully considered details throughout.

The sitting room is arranged around a semi-circular sofa, providing a comfortable space for relaxing together, whether for conversation, games or watching a favourite film or series. Four Samsung Smart TVs offer access to Sky channels and movies on demand, subject to additional charges, while LG Bluetooth speakers in the lounge and bedrooms allow guests to enjoy their own music throughout the lodge.

The sleek Poggenpohl kitchen, finished in soft grey and white tones, is fully equipped with Siemens appliances to make self-catering effortless. Luxury touches such as a Dualit 3-in-1 Espressivo coffee machine ensure everything needed for a comfortable stay is provided. The spacious dining area sits alongside the kitchen, offering a relaxed setting for shared meals.

There are three beautifully styled bedrooms, each dressed in high-quality Mascioni hotel collection bedding. A twin bedroom is located on the ground floor, while a winding staircase leads to the first-floor master bedroom and second double bedroom. The master bedroom features a super king-size bed and a private balcony, ideal for enjoying morning views across the loch, while both first-floor bedrooms benefit from tall, vaulted ceilings that create a bright and airy atmosphere.

Each bedroom is equipped with a Samsung Smart TV, a safe, a fully stocked automatic minibar and a telephone for contacting the on-site duty manager if required. The two wet rooms, one on each floor, are finished to a high standard with underfloor heating, Hansgrohe rainfall showers and Temple Spa products. The ground-floor wet room also includes a Toto washlet, designed with wellness, hygiene and sustainability in mind.

Outside, each lodge enjoys a generous decking area with stunning views, furnished with a table and chairs for outdoor dining. The private hot tub provides the perfect place to relax while watching the changing light over the water. Guests also have access to shared picnic areas, fire baskets and a communal barbecue hut.

Access to Ardlui Retreat is via a secure, code-protected gated entrance. Each lodge has parking for two cars, and electric vehicle charging facilities are available on site, with tokens obtainable from reception.

Ardlui House

Spanning approximately 3,500 square feet, Ardlui House is a beautifully designed five-bedroom property offering refined luxury through calm, contemporary styling and exceptional attention to detail. Every bedroom features a private en-suite wet room and is equipped with a flat-screen TV, Sealy bed and indulgent Mascioni bed linen, towels and robes. The carefully curated interiors, rich textures and harmonious colour palette create an atmosphere of relaxed elegance and effortless comfort throughout the house.

Activities & Facilities

For guests drawn to the water, Ardlui Retreat offers a wide range of activities to enhance the stay. Jet skis, paddleboards and kayaks are available for hire, along with a diving trampoline, subject to availability. Additional experiences include half-day water skiing, wakeboarding and speedboat tours, which are particularly popular during the summer months and should be booked in advance. For a truly special experience, guests can also hire a luxury 10-person Azimut 43-foot flybridge yacht for a tour of the loch, with fine dining available on board, subject to licensing and availability.

On land, guests can hire a motorhome to explore the surrounding area, including Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. Mountain bikes are also available, and a ferry provides access to sections of the West Highland Way for scenic walks.

Please note that certain services and facilities are available at an additional cost. These may include yacht hire, water sports and equipment, motorhome and bike hire, minibar use, nightly berthing costs and launch fees, all subject to availability.

Wellness facilities include a state-of-the-art gym equipped with Technogym equipment and sun stand hire. The gym is shared with other guests at the retreat and can be booked in advance for specific time slots.

Visiting the Area

Arrochar provides an excellent base for exploring some of Scotland’s most dramatic landscapes and outdoor attractions.
