Dartmoor Holidays – Self-Catering Cottages in Tavistock, Devon

Dartmoor Holidays is a smallholding offering three spacious, reasonably priced, and welcoming self-catering cottages. Located within the ancient market town of Tavistock in the west of Devon, these holiday cottages sit in a beautiful rural setting on the edge of Dartmoor National Park—an ideal spot for walking and exploring the great outdoors.

The Barn

The Barn is a charming conversion featuring a large first-floor room where the kitchen, dining area, and living area are all combined in one open space with wide-ranging views of the surrounding countryside. On the ground floor there are three bedrooms: one double, one twin, and one with full-size top-quality bunk beds. The ground floor also includes a bathroom with basin, toilet, and bath with shower, plus a second lavatory and washroom with tumble dryer and washing machine. The ground floor is carpeted throughout, with original oak beams left exposed for character.

The Hemphouse

The Hemphouse sleeps five people in a double room, twin room, and an en suite downstairs single. The open-plan living areas are well equipped, including a TV, DVD player, cooker, fridge, wood-burning stove, washing machine, and tumble dryer.

The Shippen

The Shippen is the smallest of the barns, sleeping four people in a double and a sleeping area within the living room. The open-plan living area is well equipped, similar to The Hemphouse.

Visiting Tavistock & Exploring Devon

These holiday cottages offer ideal accommodation for walking, hiking, cycling, or riding holidays. Dogs are welcome, and stabling is available for guests who wish to bring their own horses. Open moorland is within a 10-minute walk, while the historic market town of Tavistock is just three miles away. The nearby village of Peter Tavy boasts a 15th-century inn serving good food, and National Cycle Route 27 passes directly by the gate.

Morrells Valley Lodges, Huntsham, Tiverton, Devon (Sleeps 1-4)


Morrells Valley Lodges in Huntsham is nestled in a gorgeous valley and boasts spectacular views over the Mid Devon countryside. We are in a great position for exploring Tiverton and a range of attractions in the area.

Accommodation
We have two spacious lodges to choose from, both perfect for a romantic country escape on a working farm. Both lodges have hot tubs to soak yourself in and there is a private lake with a picnic area to enjoy.

Redwoods Lodge
This delightful lodge is ideal for the ultimate rural retreat. Inside there is a spacious open plan room that comes with a well-equipped kitchen/dining area. Unwind the lounge area after a day sightseeing. Facilities include reclining leather sofas, a TV with Freeview and a DVD player. Bedrooms consist of a double en suite room and a twin room. A separate bathroom has a bath with an overhead shower. Outside there is a decking area with patio furniture, great for a glass or two whilst savouring the view. Loungers and a BBQ are also provided.

Durley Lodge
Our cosy lodge is the perfect place to escape from the pressures of modern life. Bedrooms consist of a double en suite room and a twin room. A separate bathroom has a bath with an overhead shower. A large open plan room comes with a well-equipped kitchen/dining area. A relaxing lounge area includes reclining leather sofas, a TV with Freeview and a DVD player. Outside there is a decking area with patio furniture, loungers and BBQ for al fresco dining in the afternoon sun.

Visiting Huntsham & Exploring Devon
This part of the country has lots of stunning walking and cycling routes to enjoy, a haven for outdoor lovers. You can also visit the bustling market town of Tiverton, home to Tiverton Castle and the Tiverton Museum of Mid-Devon Life. You can watch a new blockbuster at the Tivoli Cinema Tiverton or visit the magnificent Victorian country house at Knightshayes and wander around the beautiful grounds. Excellent attractions to visit include:

Exeter Cathedral.
Dartmoor National Park.

Jackdaws Cottage, Coldridge, Crediton, Devon (Sleeps 1-6)


Jackdaws Cottage offers superb self-catering accommodation is a barn conversation located in Coldridge near the town of Crediton in Devon. The holiday cottage is a truly peaceful retreat where you can thoroughly enjoy the beautiful countryside.

Accommodation:
The cosy lounge offers a coal-effect gas stove, comfortable sofas and a TV with a DVD player. There are French doors that lead out onto the patio with panoramic views of the area.

The living room has an area with a dining room table as well as the kitchen has a table with chairs. The farmhouse kitchen is fully equipped and offers the following:

Cooker.
Microwave.
Fridge/freezer.
Dishwasher.
Washing machine.
Tumble dryer.

There is also a downstairs bathroom that has a shower and WC. The master bedroom has a double bed and stunning views of the rolling countryside. There is another double bedroom on the holiday cottage that has its own private balcony. The final bedroom is a twin room that has two single beds. The family bathroom has a bath, shower, WC and an airing cupboard.

The garden offers comfortable garden furniture making it an ideal place to enjoy some alfresco dining. We also have a fabulous games barn with table tennis, bar billiards, pool table and darts.

Visiting Coldridge & Exploring Devon:
The self-catering cottage is located in a working sheep, cattle and arable farm and is set on 150 acres of land. Guests are more than welcome to explore the land including ponds, hedgerows and woodlands. The local area also offers a range of attractions and activities such as the Dartmoor National Park which can be reached within half an hour where guests can find endless walks. Guests can also do all of the following in the local area:

Horse riding.
Golf.
Cycling.
Visit national trust properties.

Dartmoor Holidays is a smallholding offering 3 spacious, reasonably priced and welcoming self-catering cottages. The holiday cottages are located within the ancient market town of Tavistock in the west of Devon. This is a beautiful, rural setting on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park which is the ideal spot for walking.

About The Barn:

This is the smallest of the barns sleeping 4 people in a double and sleeping area in the living room. The living areas again are open plan and well equipped as per The Hemphouse.

Our holiday cottages offers ideal accommodation for walking, hiking, cycling or riding holidays. Dogs are welcome & stabling is available should you wish to bring your own horse(s). Open moorland is within a 10-minute walk. Tavistock, a historic market town, is 3 miles away and Peter Tavy, the nearby village, has a 15th Century inn serving good food. The National Cycle Route 27 goes past our gate.

Millmans Cottages, Marldon, Torquay, Devon, The English Riviera (Sleeps 1-6)


Millmans Cottages are a collection of self-catering holiday homes that are nestled amongst the beautiful South Hams countryside in the lovely village of Marldon near Torquay in Devon. Our holiday cottages are an ideal base for those who want to explore the south of Devon, Dartmoor National Park and the many beautiful beaches in the English Riviera.

On those warmer days why not relax around the solar-heated pool or on the sundeck. There are sun loungers for you to enjoy while soaking up the sun and enjoying the view of the surrounding pretty gardens.

Our holiday cottages are believed to date back to the 17th century and it still retains much of their charm and character. The cottages have been tastefully decorated and fitted, each with its own individual style and offers a variety of accommodations. All of the holiday cottages are presented to the same high standard and cleanliness & welcome walkers, cyclists, families and dogs. We like our guests to feel at home so we provide an abundance of pots, pans, crockery, cutlery and glasses, all linen including towels, electricity and heating and supply of washing up liquid, kitchen cloths and tea towels. Freeview TV and free WIFI are all included in the hire fee.

Bluebell Cottage - sleeps 4
A cosy holiday cottage with 2 bedrooms made up as a double and a twin bedroom. The holiday cottage also has an open plan sitting/dining room and a contemporary kitchen with light beach timber units and coordinating furniture. On the 1st floor, there is a bright double bedroom, a twin bedroom and a modern shower room.

Primrose Cottage - sleeps 4

Primrose is a traditional 2-storey cottage with a lovely spacious open plan sitting room/dining room, a separate contemporary kitchen with light timber units. On the 1st floor, there is a bright double bedroom, a 2 bedroom with twin beds and a modern shower room.

Rose Cottage - sleeps 4

Rose is a traditional 2-storey cottage with a spacious sitting/dining room with comfortable cottage-style furniture with a recliner chair and a bright modern well-fitted galley-style kitchen on the ground floor. On the 1st floor, there is a bright double bedroom, a twin bedroom and a modern shower room.

Honeysuckle Cottage - sleeps 6 + 1:
Honeysuckle is the largest of our cottages and it is ideal for extended families and groups of friends. It has direct access into the beautiful cottage garden, with a sun deck and solar-heated pool and has the advantage of its own private terrace and outdoor dining table making it perfect for alfresco dining or breakfast and morning coffee in the sun. On the ground floor, Honeysuckle has a lounge/diner with a natural stone floor and comfortable furnishings and a modern well fitted kitchen with a stable door overlooking the terrace, garden and pool.

On the first floor, there are three very spacious bedrooms decorated in pastel shades with toning bed linen, the two larger bedrooms equipped with vanity units and wash hand basins, and plenty of storage space. A modern bathroom, with a bath, shower, wash hand basin and toilet and a separate toilet with wash hand basin. The water supply to this cottage is from our own natural spring, providing in our opinion some of the best tasting water in Devon! We like our guests to feel at home so we have provided a good selection of larger pots and pans, extra crockery, cutlery, glass wear, all the linen for use in the cottage and a supply of environmentally friendly cleaning products, washing up liquid and cloths.

Lilac Cottage - sleeps 1 or 2:
A cosy character two-storey beamed cottage, a hideaway for two! On the ground floor, Lilac has an open plan sitting/dining room with comfortable furniture and a new attractive white kitchen, an entrance lobby and a toilet. On the first floor an open plan double bedroom with en suite shower and hand basin, the bedroom is decorated to compliment the beamed room with soft lilac-toned furnishings and Art Nouveau dressing table. Lilac cottage has a secluded outdoor seating area in a quiet corner of the garden overlooking the beautiful cottage garden and bird feeders, an ideal spot for your evening glass of wine while watching our many feathered visitors to the garden.

The holiday cottages are in a great location for exploring the southwest of England. There are plenty of pubs, cafes and restaurants in the surrounding area serving a whole variety of local produce.

Marldon’s beautiful lanes, countryside, ancient church and Church House Inn are featured in several published walking guides ranging from a short stroll through the village to a ten-mile adventure taking in Compton Castle and surrounding villages. Alternatively why not visit 1 of the many nearby attractions including Babbacombe Model Village, Bygones or Riverdart Country Park.

Apple Loft Cottage, Buckfastleigh, Devon, Dartmoor National Park


Apple Loft Cottage is a converted stone barn sleeping two people. It is attached to the owner’s charming 17th century Grade II listed Devon longhouse. It is situated to the south of the Dartmoor National Park within four acres of gardens and meadow. The River Dart and South Devon Railway run behind the property.

This beautifully furnished cottage comes with everything you need for a magical staycation in a gorgeous part of the country. The cottage sleeps up to 2 people am offers a great base for exploring the area.

On the ground floor is a delightful sitting/dining room with a beamed vaulted ceiling, sofa and captain’s chair. Facilities include a TV/DVD player and wood-burner effect electric stove, whilst the windows take advantage of the delightful views over the patio and garden towards the pond and orchard below. A well-equipped cream shaker style kitchen comes fully equipped with an electric cooker, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher.

Upstairs there is a sumptuous king-size bedroom with a vaulted beamed ceiling. All bed linen and towels are included. Downstairs there is a shower room with a modern corner shower unit, wash bowl on a shaker style cabinet and WC.

Outside there is a private courtyard with a patio, plus garden and grounds.

Whilst set in a quiet rural location, Apple Loft is minutes from the A38 and one mile from the quaint town of Buckfastleigh. Ashburton, known as the “The Gateway to the Moor” is three miles away. The Elizabethan town of Totnes with its wonderful shops and eating places just five. The cottage is mid-way between Exeter and Plymouth.

Higher Blackabroom is a spacious detached residence, surrounded by fields and approached by a long driveway. It offers complete privacy and outstanding views across the valley and to Brentor Church. Moor easily reached on foot.

The property sleeps up to 7 guests in one double room, one twin (can be made up as a king) & a triple. There is one bathroom & a walk-in shower room.

While staying with us you can visit lots of brilliant attractions in the area. This is a superb base for moor walking and rock pool bathing, there is National Cycle Network access within a quarter of a mile + cover for bikes, riding, fishing, golf, tennis and watersports nearby as well as many excellent pubs and restaurants.

Knowle Farm Cottages, Rattery, Totnes, South Devon (Sleeps 2-8)



Knowle Farm Cottages in Rattery near Totnes in South Devon offers glorious accommodation in 6 charming cottages. Situated in 44 acres of lush countryside, it is ideal for a memorable getaway.

Knowle Farm is in the heart of South Devon is a paradise for little children with donkeys, pigs, rabbits and animals galore - open your cottage door and the chickens and ducks will be waiting for your children to feed them! Knowle Farm dates back to the 17th century and all of the cottages have been lovingly converted from barns. The majority have original thick stone walls and are full of character.

Woodbine - sleeps 8 plus cots
The wonderful holiday home is largely open plan and includes a galleried living area with wood burning stove, leather sofas and 40-inch flat-screen Freesat HD TV. There is an elegant dining area and a fully equipped kitchen with a range of excellent appliances. There are 3 bedrooms: 1 double, 1 twin and 1 bunk bedroom. There is also a separate bathroom/WC with over-bath shower.

Moncks Green - sleeps 6 plus a cot
The superb property is an upside-down cottage: downstairs are three bedrooms: 1 king-size double with luxury 300 thread count cotton Dorma bed linen, 1 twin and 1 bunk bedded room. There is a separate bathroom/WC with shower attachment. There is also a comfortable and spacious living room with 40-inch flatscreen Freesat HD TV.

Applecross - sleeps 4 plus a cot
The charming upside down cottage has 2 bedrooms: 1 king-size double and 1 bunk bedded. The king features 300 thread count luxury Dorma bed linen. There is a separate bathroom/WC with over-bath shower. Upstairs is a delightful open plan living/dining area with wood-burning stove and a well equipped kitchen.

Clematis - sleeps 2 plus a child or cot
The single-storey cottage has a lovely fully equipped kitchen and cosy living/dining area with 32-inch flatscreen Freesat HD TV. There is a wood-burning stove and a chair bed which converts to a single bed for one child. The pretty double bedroom has a sloping ceiling, a stone and wood-panelled outer wall and an en suite bathroom/WC with over-bath shower. Luxury Dorma bed linen helps to ensure a comfortable and cosy night's sleep.

Foxglove & Cow mumble (each sleep 4 plus cots)
Foxglove and Cow mumble are two-bedroom cottages and each will sleep up to four plus a cot. Like Applecross, they are 'upside down' cottages. Downstairs are 2 bedrooms: 1 double with king-size bed and 1 with a twin-bedded room. There is a separate bathroom/WC with over-bath shower. Upstairs is an open plan living/dining area and a well equipped kitchen area including a dishwasher. Foxglove is very slightly larger (a matter of inches) to allow for a more gentle staircase and slightly larger bathroom - it is, therefore, more suitable for the partially disabled.

There is a range of superb facilities available: with the indoor heated pool and purpose-built indoor soft play area for toddlers (including ball pool, slide, tunnels, loft-house and many other toys) along with tennis, table tennis, pool table and outdoor play areas, there is plenty to keep everyone happy.

The area offers a whole host of local attractions and there is an excellent 11th Century local village pub which is child-friendly. With wonderful sandy beaches within a half-hour drive, the central location makes this is an ideal place for enjoying the lovely coastline that Devon has to offer and exploring the many delights of the area, including Dartmoor National Park which is right on the doorstep.
