Accommodation

Each cottage is beautifully furnished and equipped with excellent facilities to ensure a comfortable stay. Perfect for families or couples seeking a peaceful retreat, the three properties share landscaped grounds ideal for al fresco dining on sunny days. Guests can also enjoy the on-site gallery and tearoom, which includes a complimentary drink on arrival and a 10% discount on gallery purchases.

Birch

Birch is a beautifully restored ground-floor cottage featuring two comfortable bedrooms, one double and one twin. The bathroom offers a shower over the bath with WC. The cosy lounge/diner includes a TV, DVD player, and electric fire, while the well-equipped kitchen provides an electric oven and hob, microwave, and fridge/freezer.

Elm

Elm offers studio-style accommodation with a well-designed open-plan layout. The lounge provides comfortable seating and a flatscreen TV, while the sleeping area features a double bed. A dining table and fully equipped kitchen with electric oven, hob, microwave, and fridge/freezer add convenience. The property also includes a shower room and separate WC.

Rowan

Rowan is a ground-floor cottage with two inviting bedrooms, one double and one twin. A modern shower room with WC, a lounge/diner with TV, DVD player, and living flame gas fire, and a fully equipped kitchen with electric oven, hob, microwave, and fridge/freezer ensure a comfortable stay.

Gallery Cloisters

Gallery Cloisters is a spacious three-bedroom hideaway in Thornthwaite. With breathtaking views of Bassenthwaite Lake and generous living spaces, it provides the perfect base for exploring the Lake District National Park.

Facilities & Information

All cottages are self-contained, fully furnished, and well equipped. The shared enclosed garden overlooks Skiddaw, and the resident owners are on site. Facilities include electric heating, immersion heater, microwave, fridge, kettle, and electric cooker. Bed linen and towels are included, and each cottage is equipped with a digital TV and DVD player. Private car parking is available beside the cottages.

Provisions are easily obtained from nearby Keswick (3 miles) or the local shop in Braithwaite (1 mile). Dogs are welcome by prior agreement at an additional charge of £10 per week. A 50% deposit is required at booking, with the balance payable 28 days before arrival. All cottages are on the ground floor, making them suitable for less abled guests.

Visiting Thornthwaite & Exploring Cumbria

The surrounding area offers plenty to see and do. The nearby visitor centre at Whinlatter Pass provides a "Go Ape" adventure course, mountain bike trails, children’s play and picnic areas, a shop, cafĂ©, and excellent walking and biking routes with dramatic views into the “Jaws of Borrowdale.”

Bassenthwaite Lake, within walking distance, offers fishing, sailing, and a peaceful wildlife reserve. Its eastern shore is home to the historic Mirehouse, while nearby Derwentwater, known as the Queen of the English Lakes, boasts stunning scenery, mysterious islands, and opportunities for boating, rowing, sailing, and canoeing.

Gallery Mews Cottages offers wonderful self-catering accommodation in the village of Thornthwaite, between Bassenthwaite Lake and Derwentwater in Cumbria. We are based in a tranquil location and boast stunning views of the Skiddaw and Thornthwaite Forest.

Accommodation:
All of our cottages are beautifully furnished and come with a range of excellent facilities to make you stay as comfortable as possible. The 3 properties are perfect for families or couples looking to escape the pressures of modern life. Our properties have use of shared grounds, perfect for al fresco dining when the sun is shining. Onsite there is a delightful gallery and tearoom to enjoy, including a complimentary drink on arrival and 10% off purchases from the gallery.

Thornthwaite Birch:
Our gorgeous ground floor cottage offers two bedrooms: 1 double and 1 twin. The rooms share a shower over bath. A cosy lounge/diner comes with a TV, DVD and electric fire. Cook up a storm in the well-equipped kitchen which comes with an electric oven and hob, microwave and fridge/freeze.

Thornthwaite Elm:
This studio-style accommodation boasts a lovely lounge/kitchen/diner/sleeping area, including a well-equipped open-plan area with lounge chairs, and a flat-screen TV. A delightful sleeping area comes with a double bed. Rustle up some delicious dishes in the well-equipped kitchen area with an electric oven, hob, microwave and fridge/freezer.

Thornthwaite Rowan:
Our tastefully restored ground floor cottage offers two bedrooms: 1 double and 1 twin room which share a shower room. A relaxing lounge/diner has a TV, DVD player and living flame gas fire. The well-equipped kitchen comes with an electric oven, hob, microwave and fridge/freezer.

Facilities/Information:
Each self-catering cottage is completely self-contained, fully furnished and equipped. The garden, shared between the cottages, is fully enclosed and overlooks Skiddaw. The owners are residents on site. Electric heating is provided together with an immersion heater, electric cooker, microwave, fridge and kettle. Bed linen and towels are included in the cottage price. Digital televisions with DVD are provided in all cottages. Provisions can be obtained from nearby Keswick (3 miles) or our well-stocked local shop in Braithwaite (1 mile). Private car parking is available adjacent to the cottages.

Dogs are permitted by prior agreement with the owners (an extra charge of £10 per week will be made).

A deposit of 50% is payable on booking; the balance to be paid 28 days before arrival (we reserve the right to re-let the cottage if these conditions are not met).

All cottages provide ground floor access and accommodation suitable for less abled persons.

In the area there is an interpretive visitors centre, accessible from the village or from the nearby Whinlatter Pass, where there is a "Go Ape" adventure, mountain bike trail, children’s play and picnic areas, a shop and cafe, excellent hill trails, for walks or mountain biking and breath-taking views into the "Jaws of Borrowdale".

Bassenthwaite Lake, within easy walking distance of the cottages, provides a peaceful setting and offers excellent fishing and sailing facilities alongside a wildlife reserve. On the eastern shores are the splendid grounds of the historic MireHouse, home of the Spedding family. Derwent Water Is known as the Queen of the English Lakes with its dramatic beauty, mysterious islands and a range of boating activities - motor launches, rowing and sailing boats and canoeing.

Beech Nook, Thornthwaite, Keswick, Cumbria


Beech Nook is a charming self catering holiday cottage capable of sleeping up to 8, nestled in the tranquil village of Thornthwaite just a short drive from the historic market town of Keswick. This large detached holiday home offers the very best in luxury holiday accommodation and is the perfect base for exploring the idyllic Cumbrian countryside.

Beech Nook is a large detached house that provides a very comfortable holiday home for up to 8 people. 

Downstairs has an entrance hall, with a comfortable lounge with gas fire and double French doors leading onto the outside patio seating area and garden. The separate dining room is conveniently situated just next to the beautiful, well equipped family kitchen. There is also a utility room leading to the downstairs shower room and WC. The back door gives access to the large double garage, perfect for storing bikes, canoes or other outdoor equipment.

The Lake District offers a great variety of adventures and activities to be explored! The area hosts a vast range of outdoor pursuits from walking to windsurfing, pony trekking to paragliding, climbing to canoeing and more.
