Meadow Sweet Cottage is a charming converted stone and cob barn, located just one mile from the A30 near the market town of Okehampton, right in the heart of Devon. Surrounded by peaceful fields and farmland, the area offers plenty of opportunities for walking and cycling, including the renowned 31-mile Tarka Trail and the scenic Abbeyford and Hook Woods.

This self-catering cottage provides an ideal retreat for couples and families alike. The spacious sitting room is well-appointed with a flat-screen TV, a DVD player, and a collection of information on local attractions, walking routes, cycling trails, and recommendations for sampling Devon’s finest local produce. The traditional kitchen is fully equipped with an electric cooker, microwave, and fridge freezer, and welcomes guests with a basket of fresh local produce to start their stay. The kitchen leads to a bright and airy dining room, while a downstairs shower room and toilet offer added convenience.

Upstairs, the cottage comfortably accommodates 2 to 4 guests. The main bedroom features a double bed with lovely countryside views, while the cosy twin room offers charming vistas across the valley toward Okehampton and Dartmoor. A cot is also available upon request. The bathroom includes a bathtub with an overhead shower, perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring.

Meadow Sweet Cottage’s location is ideal for discovering both the rugged beauty of North Devon and the softer, picturesque South Devon Coast. To the north, you can explore the dramatic coastline from Hartland and the cobbled village of Clovelly to the sandy beaches of Instow, Saunton, and Woolacombe, all the way up to Lynton and Lynmouth, the gateway to Exmoor National Park. In contrast, the South Devon Coast offers lively harbours like Dartmouth and Torquay, perfect for a more relaxed coastal experience.

Closer to home, Dartmoor National Park is right on your doorstep, providing endless opportunities to enjoy Devon’s natural beauty. From exploring the park’s rugged rocky tors to spotting wild ponies and relaxing in traditional local pubs, there is something for everyone. The historic market towns of Tavistock and Hatherleigh are also within easy reach, offering a glimpse of Devon’s rich heritage. Kingslake Holidays offer superb self-catering accommodation in Highampton. We offer a range of lodges and cottages near Beaworthy and are the perfect base for exploring the beautiful Devonshire countryside.

Cottages:

We have a range of unique and tastefully furnished cottages to choose from. We have 5 one-bedroom cottages, 1 two-bedroom cottage, 2 three-bedroom cottages and 1 four-bedroom cottage. We also have 3 adjoining cottages which can be rented as 3 interconnecting cottages. All the cottages are based around water gardens and boast views over the lake, woodland or gardens.

Most of the cottages have stone walls and beamed ceilings. All the cottage comes with Freeview TV and a DVD/Blue-ray player. All the kitchens are fully equipped and come with a range of excellent appliances: oven and hob, microwave, fridge or fridge/freezer, kettle and toaster. We also provide patio furniture and a BBQ.

Lodges:

We have six lodges available which can sleep between 4 or 5 people. Each comes with its own parking bay and further parking is also available. The lodges are in a peaceful position away from the cottages. All the lodges are beautifully furnished and come with an open-plan lounge/dining room. Patio doors lead onto a balcony with boasts spectacular views over woodland and lakes. On each balcony, there is patio furniture and a BBQ. Some lodges come with luxurious hot tubs to soak yourself in.

The lodges all have the modern comforts expected of high-quality accommodation. Each comes with a hairdryer, sandwich toaster and DVD/Blue-ray player. We also have a range of kitchen equipment available on request. A storage shed with a fridge, washing machine and tumble drier is between the lodges. All the properties include bed linen.

We offer a range of superb facilities around the site. We have a clubhouse bar and restaurant which offers a brand-new menu, plus a range of drinks and coffees. Outside of the building, there is a giant chess set for guests to enjoy and a large children’s play area. You can also visit our shop which sells all the essentials.

We are ideal for exploring a range of famous attractions. The Tarka Trail offers over 30 miles of cycle paths using the old railways that cut a path through the beautiful Devon countryside. Bicycles can be hired if you don’t want to bring your own. The beautiful beaches of Bude are only a 25-minute drive from Kingslakes, with Widemouth Bay a little further.

Stowford Lodge Cottages offer self catering accommodation situated in Great Torrington in the heart of rural Devon's Tarka-the-Otter country. Stowford Lodge Cottages are set in about 6 acres of private pasture land comprising of an orchard, with a safe and wonderfully spacious children's play area and a one acre field ideal for kite flying and football. There is also a small wooded walk amongst numerous young trees running alongside a pony paddock and a hen and duck enclosure.

Great Torrington town square and the newly refurbished Pannier Market, as featured in the drama series "Down to Earth" on BBC One, is only 3 miles away. Home to Dartington Crystal and RHS Gardens Rosemoor, and the newly opened 1646 Civil War Centre.

Tarka Country is on our doorstep, Weare Giffard being the birthplace of Tarka the Otter and offering access to the Tarka Cycle Trail; bikes are available to hire locally.

We are centrally placed for visiting Devon and Cornwall, all of which has plenty to offer the visitor for 'places to visit' and 'things to do'.

Westward Ho!, Instow, Clovelly, Bucks Mills offering safe beaches are no more than a short car journey away. Ideal base for sea trips to Lundy Island from Bideford or Ilfracombe. Dartmoor and Exmoor are also within easy reach.
