The Ticket Office, Allerston, Pickering, North Yorkshire


The Old Station offers three unique self catering railway carriages in the village of Allerston, near the historic market town of Pickering in North Yorkshire. Set on the edge of the North York Moors, the carriages provide a cosy and unusual place to stay, with excellent opportunities for walking and cycling in the surrounding countryside.

Accommodation

Originally built in 1968, the three railway carriages have been thoughtfully converted to provide exceptionally well-equipped holiday accommodation.

Each carriage includes central heating, an oven, hob, microwave, fridge, TV, DVD player, radio, and a bathroom with a bath, shower attachment, WC, and wash basin. The carriages are positioned in train formation, although they are not inter-connected.

Carriage One and Carriage Two each offer three bedrooms. Carriage One comprises one double bedroom, one twin room with two single beds, and a twin room with one single bed and a head-height bunk. Carriage Two includes one double bedroom and two twin rooms, each with a single bed and a head-height bunk. Carriage Three features two double bedrooms, both with an additional head-height bunk.

Set within two acres of grounds, the carriages offer plenty of outdoor space for children to play. Each carriage has its own picnic table, BBQ, and a selection of toys, games, and bikes for guests to enjoy.

Visiting Allerston & Exploring North Yorkshire

There is a wide variety of activities to enjoy in the local area. Ryedale is known for its excellent cycling routes, suitable for all ages and abilities, from gentle rides across the Vale of Pickering to more challenging mountain biking trails in Dalby Forest, which is considered one of the best mountain biking locations in the country. Guests can also enjoy fishing, walking, and golf nearby.

The attractive market town of Pickering is located close by and is home to the North York Moors Railway. It offers a range of shops, pubs, and restaurants. The North York Moors National Park is also easily accessible, providing beautiful landscapes, woodland walks, and stunning views, along with numerous nearby towns, villages, and historic houses to explore.

Rates range from £594 to £998 per week depending on the season. The accommodation sleeps up to six guests, with children welcome. Pets are not permitted. Off-street parking is available.

Appin Holiday Homes, Appin, Oban, Argyll


Appin Holiday Homes provide distinctive self-catering accommodation in the village of Appin, surrounded by impressive mountain scenery and overlooking the loch. Located in Argyll between Oban and Glencoe, with Fort William just a short drive further north, the setting offers an excellent base for exploring the Highlands while enjoying comfort and convenience.

Lodges

Each lodge features two comfortable bedrooms, including one double and one twin, making them a great choice for couples, families or small groups travelling together. Inside, guests can enjoy a light and welcoming living area, a well-equipped kitchen for preparing meals and modern bathroom facilities, providing everything needed for a relaxing and convenient stay after a day exploring the surrounding walks, lochs and coastline.

Badger, Squirrel, Fox and Otter are the upper-level lodges, all offering superb views of the surrounding scenery. Each lodge includes a spacious modern shower room with a WC and basin, as well as an extended decked area with steps, an outdoor table and chairs, and a small outdoor sofa, ideal for relaxing and taking in the views.

Beech, Rowan, Oak, Ash, Birch and Cherry are located on the lower level and feature bathrooms with a bath and overhead shower. Each lodge also includes a small electric fire with a surround, creating a warm and cosy atmosphere to unwind in after a day exploring the area.

Railway Carriage

This beautifully restored former GWR train carriage combines historic charm with modern comfort. Thoughtfully converted with subtle nods to its railway heritage, it features a cosy living area with a wood-burning stove, smart TV and stylish décor beneath the original curved pitch pine roof. The carriage includes a handmade king-size bed with luxurious bedding, a fully fitted kitchen with modern appliances and a spacious shower room with double basins, robes and soft towels.

Outside, a private and secluded seating area with a covered space, large gas fire pit and outdoor roll-top bath provides the perfect place to relax after a day exploring the countryside.

Porter's Rest

Porter’s Rest is a cosy shepherd’s hut set within its own secluded woodland area. Designed as a romantic retreat for two and also suitable for solo travellers, the hut features a comfortable double bed, soft bedding and a small wood-burning stove to keep things warm. Inside there is a compact kitchen with a two-ring hob, sink, fridge, kettle and toaster, along with essentials such as tea, coffee, sugar and milk, plus a small sofa and retro record player.

Outside, a private garden area includes a wooden deck with seating, an outdoor bath with hot and cold water and a fire pit for cooking or relaxing under the stars. A shower and toilet are located in a nearby facilities block just a short walk away.

Bothies

Kilkerran Bothy and Loch Fyne Bothy offer peaceful retreats designed for relaxation in the heart of nature. Sleeping two guests, these charming bothies combine modern comfort with rustic character, making them ideal for couples looking to unwind. Inside, there is a beautifully furnished space with stylish décor, a cosy living area and a well-equipped kitchenette, providing everything needed for a comfortable stay. Guests can also enjoy the tranquil surroundings from the private deck, perfect for morning coffee or watching the sunset.

Visiting the Area

Appin is ideally located for exploring some of the most scenic areas of the West Highlands. Visitors can discover the historic Castle Stalker, one of Scotland’s most photographed castles, set on a small island in Loch Laich. A short drive away, the lively harbour town of Oban offers shops, restaurants and boat trips to the Hebridean islands. The dramatic landscapes of Glencoe are also within easy reach, providing spectacular scenery and excellent walking opportunities.

For those who enjoy wildlife and nature, the peaceful shores of Loch Creran and the surrounding countryside offer plenty of opportunities to explore the outdoors.

Seabank, Selsey, Chichester, West Sussex (Sleeps 1-8)


Seabank was once a railway carriage. Now it has been converted to provide charming accommodation. It is beautifully located on the seafront in Selsey. This historic town has several beaches and local amenities. Chichester is 6 miles away and London a 2-hour drive. Seabank is the perfect spot for a peaceful breakaway.

About Seabank:
