Rose Cottage is a traditional Northumbrian holiday home situated in the peaceful hamlet of High Humbleton. Surrounded by rolling hills and farmland, the cottage sits at 400 feet above sea level, offering stunning views of the Glendale Valley on one side and the Cheviot Hills on the other. Its location near the Northumberland National Park boundary makes it an excellent base for exploring this beautiful region.

The cottage comfortably accommodates up to four guests in the main house, making it an ideal retreat for families or small groups. The sitting room features a cosy open fire, creating a warm and inviting space to relax after a day of exploring the surrounding countryside.

There are two well-appointed bedrooms: one with a king-size bed and a smaller room that can be arranged as a single or twin, depending on guests’ needs. The sunroom, with its dining table overlooking the valley, provides a bright and scenic setting for meals. The modern kitchen is fully equipped, while the bathroom offers contemporary comfort.

For additional accommodation, the owners have thoughtfully refurbished a stone Bothy in the garden. This separate space includes a double bed, en-suite facilities, comfortable seating, and a deck, providing an ideal hideaway with added privacy.

The property also boasts a spacious, enclosed garden, perfect for enjoying the fresh country air. Off-road parking ensures convenience, and well-behaved pets are warmly welcomed, making it a great destination for pet-friendly holidays. The main house offers reasonable disabled access, with all rooms on one level except for four steps leading to the larger bedroom. Guests are provided with fresh linen, towels, logs, and coal for added comfort.

Bookings run from Friday to Friday, ensuring guests have plenty of time to unwind and enjoy their stay.

High Humbleton’s central location makes Rose Cottage an excellent base for exploring Northumberland’s top attractions. Visitors can easily access historic towns such as Alnwick, Berwick, Edinburgh, and Newcastle. Grindon Farm, Haydon Bridge, Hexham, Northumberland (Sleeps 1-11)


Grindon Farm is situated at Haydon Bridge near Hexham nestled within the Northumberland National Park commanding spectacular, panoramic rural views. We provide an ideal base for walking and cycling holidays in beautiful Hadrian’s Wall country, or a peaceful retreat for some well deserved rest and relaxation!

The Old Farmhouse
Our cosy self catering cottage has been sympathetically converted from the original eighteenth century farmhouse and commands spectacular views of the surrounding countryside to the South.

The lounge / dining area has large windows, taking full advantage of the beautiful views, which can now be enjoyed with the additional comfort of our recently installed wood buring stove. Outside, the cottage has its own private garden with picnic table and chairs, and barbecue facilities.

The lounge / dining area opens directly onto the balcony, which also provides same-level access back to the main entrance.

The holiday cottage has 2 cosy bedrooms and can sleep 4 people (an extra bed is available to accommodate a fifth person). Each bedroom has an en-suite facility with shower and has been designed with mobility impaired guests also in mind.

Our self catering accommodation has recently been awarded a Bronze Award under the North East England Tourism Awards 2011, and Four Stars Gold Award under the Enjoy England Awards for Excellence Scheme.

Grindon Cartshed
Our beautiful barn conversion can be offered as self-catering accommodation. The property commands spectacular views down the Tyne valley.

The Cartshed has 3 bedrooms with en-suite facilities and can sleep up to 6 people offering Level 2 mobility accommodatiom.

The lounge and dining area has large floor to ceiling windows, taking full advantage of the beautiful views! Outside the accommodation is a private garden with picnic table and chairs, and barbecue facilities.

Each bedroom has an en-suite facility with shower and has been designed with mobility impaired guests also in mind.

Our holiday accommodation at Grindon Cartshed has been awarded Four Star Gold status under the Enjoy England Awards for Excellence Scheme.

Local Area
The nearby market town of Hexham situated in the beautiful Tyne Valley, offers great restaurants and shopping as well as many medieval buildings. Chief amongst these is the imposing Abbey dating from 674AD. Three miles further along the valley brings you to the pretty village of Corbridge with its upmarket shops, cafes and restaurants and the old roman town of Corstopitum.

Slightly further afield, the county town of Alnwick boasts a truly magnificent castle (featured prominently in the Harry Potter movies) and the Alnwick Garden - a fascinating contemporary garden with spectacular water features and one of the world's largest wooden treehouses. A short hop to the coast from Alnwick brings you to an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty a dramatic coastline dotted with romantic castles - visit Bamburgh, Dunstanburgh, Warkworth and Lindisfarne.

Hoolit Cottage offers charming self-catering accommodation in Shotton, set on the Edge of Northumberland National Park. We boast amazing views over Glendale and the River Bowmont, perfect for a magical break. Further afield you can visit lots of brilliant attractions in Northumberland.

Accommodation:
Our wonderful cottage is ideal for the ultimate country escape. The cottage is elegantly furnished and comes with everything you need for a tranquil getaway.

Inside there is a cosy living room with French doors that open onto the patio area. A log burner will keep you toasty in the winter months and there is comfy seating, a TV and a DVD player.

Rustle up some delicious dishes in the fully equipped kitchen that comes with a range of excellent appliances. Large windows enjoy delightful views over the garden. You can savour some delicious meals around the dining table that seats 4.

Upstairs there is a master double room and a twin room. The double room enjoys countryside views and the twin room offers garden views. Both rooms share a family bathroom.

Outside there is a private garden with outdoor furniture and a BBQ for al fresco dining in the afternoon sun. You are also welcome to explore the owner’s two acres of wildlife gardens.

Visiting Shotton & Exploring Northumberland:
This part of the country has something for everyone, including gorgeous beaches, stunning countryside and superb attractions. The highest point in Northumberland, The Cheviot, is only 12 miles away, whilst The Pennine Way and St Cutherberts Walks are nearby. Brilliant attractions to visit include:

Northumberland Cottage, Branton, Alnwick, Northumberland (Sleeps 1-6)


Northumberland Cottage is a beautiful self-catering holiday cottage in the tranquil hamlet of Branton, near Alnwick in Northumberland. Our charming pet-friendly self-catering accommodation is Ideally situated at the gateway to the Northumberland National Park and the foot of the Cheviot Hills just two miles from Ingram and the beautiful Breamish Valley

The accommodation comprises of a comfortable sitting room with Inglenook fireplace with wood burning stove, sliding sash window, comfy 2 seater sofa and easy armchair plus three smaller fireside chairs. For those cosy nights in there are a flat-screen TV/DVD player and an old pine dresser with toys and a games chest.

The beautiful stone walled cottage kitchen has traditional pine farmhouse furniture with tables and benches for 4-6 people and a Jerusalem stone floor. There is also a Belfast sink, dishwasher, electric cooker with two ovens, fridge with freezer compartment, microwave and cooking utensils. Basic provisions are also provided including tea and coffee, oils and seasoning, flour and sugar.

Bedroom 1 is a large double with a cast iron fireplace, airing cupboard/linen store and old pine chest of drawers, radio and a sliding sash window with scenic views of Glanton Pike.

Bedroom 2 has twin pine cabin beds with a built-in cupboard for hanging clothes and storage, a pine chest of drawers, a pine linen box, under bed drawers with toys and a sash window with views of Glanton Pike.

Bedroom 3 is a small double with a sofa bed and we can also provide travel cots if required.
To the rear is a small, completely enclosed patio garden with a wooden table and 4 chairs, a wooden shed for bike storage including bikes of various sizes and a BBQ.

Northumberland Cottage also specialises in baby/toddler equipment for twins, making this the ideal accommodation for families.

Northumberland is an ideal destination for a holiday in the British Isles. It is the least densely populated county in England and its National Park is the most remote and unspoilt of all the English National Parks. Northumberland has more castles open to the public than any other English county and one of its major landmarks, Hadrian's Wall, is the largest world heritage site in Britain. Just a few yards from us in the village is a lovely pub/eatery.
