The Jacobean Cottage & Brackenhill Tower, Longtown, Gretna Green, Cumbria


The Jacobean Cottage and Brackenhill Tower are located on the historic Bracken Hill Estate, offering luxury self-catering accommodation for up to 16 guests on the Cumbria and Scottish Borders boundary. Rich in history, character and romance, the estate sits in the heart of the former Debatable Lands, an area steeped in centuries of Border history.

Originally built on Scottish soil, Brackenhill Tower is now the only surviving Scottish peel tower standing on English soil, making it a truly unique place to stay. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and just a short drive from the centre of Longtown, the estate provides an excellent base for exploring Cumbria, Hadrian’s Wall, Carlisle, Kielder Forest and the stunning Scottish Borders.

The Jacobean Cottage – Sleeps 6

The Jacobean Cottage is a charming self-catering holiday cottage sleeping between four and six guests, ideal for a relaxing countryside escape on the Bracken Hill Estate.

Outside, guests can unwind in their own private hot tub jacuzzi while enjoying access to 2.5 acres of beautiful gardens, woodland and river walks. A gas BBQ is also provided for outdoor dining.

Inside, the cottage blends historic character with modern comfort. The ground floor features a spacious lounge with a traditional inglenook fireplace, along with a selection of books, games and tourist information, creating a cosy and welcoming atmosphere. The fully equipped kitchen and dining area includes a fridge, freezer, washer, dryer, dishwasher and microwave, with dining seating for up to six guests. A convenient downstairs W/C is also available.

Upstairs, there are two large bedrooms with exposed wooden beams, adding to the cottage’s unique charm. Bedroom one is a spacious double room with an additional double sofa bed for extra sleeping space, while bedroom two is a large en-suite bedroom.

Please note that there are low exposed wooden beams throughout the downstairs area, with a height of approximately six feet.

The Tower House – Sleeps 10

The Tower House is a unique historic holiday property sleeping up to 10 guests, combining the character of Brackenhill Tower with the comfort of the adjoining Hunting Lodge.

Set within 2.5 acres of gardens, guests can enjoy woodland and river walks, a gas BBQ and peaceful countryside surroundings on the Cumbria and Scottish Borders boundary.

The Hunting Lodge features a spacious lounge with books, games and tourist information, along with two stylish en-suite double bedrooms, including one with a traditional four-poster bed.

The historic Tower spans four floors and is full of original features. It offers a fully equipped kitchen and dining area, the magnificent Great Hall with dining seating for up to 14 guests, a luxurious master bedroom with a carved king-size four-poster bed and en-suite bathroom, and a large top-floor bedroom with four single beds and en-suite facilities.

Please note that access to the Tower rooms is via a traditional spiral staircase.

Accommodation

The house has been fully refurbished to a high standard, ensuring guests have everything needed for a relaxing and enjoyable break. From the moment of arrival, Glingerbank offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with a spacious entrance hall featuring an open fire that is particularly inviting during the winter months.

With 13 bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, six reception rooms and a dedicated games room, there is ample space for guests to relax, unwind and socialise in comfort. Dogs are welcome, allowing the whole family to enjoy the stay together.

All reception rooms are located on the ground floor, and a lift provides access to the second floor for guests who require it. A disabled toilet is currently under construction on the ground floor.

Kirkandrews House has been designed to ensure guests feel at home from the moment they arrive. Comfortably furnished and well equipped for self-catering holidays, this listed property has been thoughtfully created from a barn and two cottages. Decorated in warm, neutral tones, the house is carpeted throughout, with the exception of the kitchen and bathroom areas.

There is generous space for both socialising and quiet relaxation, with three separate sitting areas and a large dining room that allows everyone to come together for meals.

Glingerbank is a luxurious Edwardian house in Cumbria that offers a home away from home for parties up to 26 people. Nestled in its beautifully maintained grounds, it provides a luxurious base for those who want to enjoy some time with friends and family. Glinger Bank is away from the hustle and bustle of the city, however within easy driving distance of Longtown, Gretna Green and Carlisle.

About Glingerbank:
This fabulous house has been completely refurbished, providing guests with a place to stay that includes everything you need for an enjoyable break away. We want you to feel right at home from the moment you arrive. The spacious entrance hall has a wonderful open fire, a real treat to use in the winter months

With its 13 bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, 6 reception rooms and games room, there is plenty of space for all guests to rest relax and recuperate. Dogs are welcome so you don’t need to worry about leaving your canine companions at home. We enjoy meeting all the family!

All reception rooms are on the ground floor and we have also installed a lift to the second floor for those who require it. A disabled loo is also currently under construction on the ground floor.

Pheasant Lodge near Longtown offers wonderful couples only self catering accommodation, set in a picturesque countryside setting near Hadrians Wall. This Cumbrian lodge is in the ideal location for exploring Northumberland, the Lake District or the Scottish borders.

The charming lodge offers the ultimate country retreat, offering spectacular views of the Northern Cumbrian Fells and Solway Coast. This fabulous lodge is on a lovely working farm with ponies, sheep, a donkey & poultry, nestled in a quiet rural location.

This ground-level lodge is tastefully furnished and comes with a range of excellent facilities to make your stay as comfortable as possible. A lovely open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner will suit all your needs and includes toasty underfloor heating. The lounge includes a TV/DVD player and wonderful Harris Tweed comfy suite. Rustle up some delicious food in the well-equipped kitchen which has an electric oven and hob, fridge, freezer, microwave, coffee machine and dishwasher. Enjoy some home-cooked food in the dining area which seats 2 people.

A beautiful master bedroom comes with a comfy double bed and elegant tartan decor. The modern shower room includes a shower and WC. An additional WC is also available.

Outside there is an east-facing decking with a hot tub, perfect for a soaking you muscles whilst savouring the stunning views. Garden furniture is provided for al fresco dining when the sun is shining.

The lodge is only 7 miles from Hadrian’s wall path, a renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area also has an abundance of scenic cycle trails and walking routes, great ways to admire the amazing scenery. Adjacent to us is Heathery Belt Wood, part of Netherby Estate and home to wildlife and many birds, including pheasants. Only 3 miles away is Gretna Green, a popular Scottish wedding venue, and the location of the world-famous blacksmith shop and Gretna Outlet Village.
