Driftwood Cottage & The Old Police Station, Portsoy, Banff, Aberdeenshire

The North Eastern region of Scotland is a breathtaking area, stretching from the grandeur of the Cairngorm Mountains to the dramatic coastal edges. Visitors can choose from two charming self-catering properties in Portsoy, Aberdeenshire.

Driftwood Cottage – Sleeps 4

Driftwood Cottage offers comfortable accommodation with a spacious king-size double bedroom, shower room, lounge and kitchen all conveniently located on the ground floor. A twin room with a low ceiling and a children’s play area can be accessed via narrow and steep stairs, making it an ideal choice for couples or families with young children.

Outside, three terraces rise up the hillside, each providing increasingly impressive views. Guests can enjoy a barbecue area with ample seating and even a fish pond. At the highest point sits a ‘sitooterie’ (a wooden summerhouse), where visitors can relax while admiring the charmingly uneven rooftops of the historic conservation area and the sea stretching out on the horizon.

The Old Police Station – Sleeps 4

From the front, The Old Police Station appears quite small, but stepping inside from Church Street reveals a bright, airy and surprisingly spacious interior. This newly developed holiday home has been thoughtfully designed on a split level, making the most of its location beside the expansive Wally Green park and the footpath along the old railway line.

The property comfortably sleeps four guests, with the living area located at street level and the accommodation on the lower level. The town centres around its two historic harbours dating from the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries. These picturesque areas have retained much of their character and have served as filming locations for the recent Whisky Galore remake and the latest season of Peaky Blinders. Although the fishing industry has changed over the years, the sight of the town’s two St Ayles skiffs launching from the harbour remains a familiar and traditional scene.

Portsoy also offers excellent walking opportunities along its dramatic coastline. Nearby places of interest include Findlater Castle, Sunnyside Beach and Cullen. To the east, the Coastguard’s path provides stunning views across to Troup Head. Between the cottages and the harbours, visitors will also find the Shore Inn along with a variety of excellent places to eat.
