Glenquicken Farm – Rural Retreat in Dumfries & Galloway
Located near Creetown in the heart of Wigtownshire, Dumfries & Galloway, Glenquicken Farm is a working farm offering a unique countryside escape. Home to sheep, horses, hens, pedigree Galloway cattle, and working dogs, the farm also hosts a trout fishery and pheasantry, providing guests with a true taste of rural Scottish life.
Guests are welcome to explore the farm freely, where they’ll find a rich variety of wildlife including deer, hares, ducks, pheasants, buzzards, hawks, and many species of garden birds. A special highlight is the farm’s resident white barn owl, often seen gliding silently across the glen.
Each of Glenquicken’s self-catering holiday cottages has been thoughtfully renovated and furnished to a high standard, offering modern comforts while preserving traditional charm. All accommodations boast magnificent views across the Galloway countryside.
The Mill – Character Cottage With Elevated Views
Originally the corn-grinding mill for the farm, The Mill retains historic charm with the original horse-driven drive shaft still on display on the patio. This upside-down layout cottage welcomes guests on the upper floor, where the kitchen, lounge, and one twin bedroom are located. Downstairs is a spacious triple bedroom, bathroom, and utility room with drying facilities—ideal for wet weather.
The cottage features five permanent beds and can accommodate additional guests with cots and full-size folding beds available on request. A full-size electric oven and hob, fridge freezer, washing machine with dryer, and microwave ensure a well-equipped kitchen. Oil-fired central heating and electric radiators provide year-round comfort, and entertainment is available via TV, DVD, and CD player.
The Lodge – Converted Granary With Timeless Charm
Once a granary and bothy, The Lodge has been carefully restored into a charming and comfortable cottage. It offers four permanent beds in two large bedrooms, with cots and extra beds available on request. The property combines old-world character with modern conveniences including a full-size oven and hob, fridge freezer, washing machine with dryer, and large microwave.
The Lodge is heated by oil radiators throughout, with additional electric heaters available. A TV, DVD, and CD player are provided, and the surrounding views are nothing short of spectacular.
Stable Cottage – Light-Filled Luxury by the Loch
Stable Cottage, the latest addition to Glenquicken’s accommodation, was originally the farm’s stable. Now fully renovated and extended, it features a bright and spacious sunroom/lounge with breathtaking views over the loch and the Machars peninsula.
The kitchen boasts solid wood roofing and open pine beams, giving it a warm, airy feel. It includes modern appliances such as a full-size oven and hob, fridge freezer, washing machine, and dryer. A large double bedroom and a well-appointed bathroom with both bath and shower offer excellent comfort. Entertainment includes a TV, DVD, and CD player.
The Sheddings – Back-to-Basics Glamping With Modern Comforts
For guests who prefer a simpler stay, The Sheddings offer fully insulated and heated glamping units. Each sleeps up to three guests (or two adults plus two children under twelve) on three bunks—including an extra-long 8-footer—and is equipped with a wall heater, oven-grill with twin hotplates, and a fridge. Guests bring their own sleeping bags, mats or airbeds, kitchenware, and essentials.
