St Margaret’s Park
Self-Catering Lodges & Historic Accommodation in the Heart of Cornwall
Set in six acres of peaceful, landscaped parkland near Polgooth, St Margaret’s Park offers a tranquil retreat with a selection of 29 detached self-catering holiday lodges and a beautifully restored 18th-century Engine House. A meandering stream runs through the grounds, adding to the charm of this idyllic and family-run destination in Cornwall’s gentle south coast.
Lodge Accommodation
St Margaret’s Park offers a diverse range of detached holiday lodges, each with its own character and layout. Lodges vary in size and price, making them suitable for couples, families, and groups.
Smaller lodges provide cosy accommodation with unique layouts. Some are set on gentle slopes and accessed by paths or steps—ideal for guests seeking charm and privacy, though they may not suit everyone.
The Type E lodges are especially popular with families and older guests, positioned on level lawns with easy access to the playing field and dog-walking area.
Guests seeking extra space may prefer the Type F lodges, located near the stream and featuring large covered verandas that offer privacy and scenic views.
The expansive Type G lodges, also streamside and on level ground, include a third bedroom with en suite shower room, and a dishwasher in the kitchen for added convenience.
All lodges are equipped with outdoor furniture, ideal for enjoying Cornwall’s mild climate. Dogs are welcome in designated lodges, provided they are kept on leads within the park and exercised in the dedicated walking area.
The Engine House
Once home to a beam engine for the Polyear Mining operation, the historic Engine House (built in 1890) has been transformed into unique three-bedroom accommodation. The building retains its character while offering modern comfort, including a large balcony that overlooks the park’s picturesque surroundings.
Ground Floor Layout:
Entrance hall and hallway leading to:
Double bedroom with French windows and en suite shower room
Second double bedroom
Third bedroom with twin beds
Family bathroom with shower over bath, toilet, and wash basin
Utility room with washing machine
Each bedroom is equipped with a television, radio alarm clock, and hairdryer, ensuring a comfortable and well-furnished stay.
The south-facing annexe, once home to a Cornish boiler, now accommodates the bedrooms and bathrooms, maintaining the historical essence of the building while offering practical family living.
Location & Exploring Cornwall
St Margaret’s Park is ideally located for exploring Cornwall’s iconic attractions, including the Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, and the region’s many sandy beaches, secluded coves, and historic harbours. Its sheltered setting makes it a popular choice for both early spring and late season breaks.
Throughout the year, the park comes alive with colour from a wide variety of trees and flowering plants. Nature thrives here, with regular sightings of squirrels, ducks, and even the occasional badger. Birdwatchers will find the park particularly appealing during spring and autumn, when migratory and uncommon species are often spotted.
St Margaret’s Park blends peaceful natural beauty, historic charm, and warm hospitality, making it a superb base for anyone wishing to discover the true spirit of Cornwall.
