Woodend, Ulpha, Broughton-in-Furness, Cumbria, The Lake District


Woodend is a collection of self catering holiday homes sleeping up to six people, nestled in a remote location within a relatively quiet and unspoilt area of the Lake District National Park, just a short drive from Ulpha near Broughton-in-Furness. From the holiday cottages, guests can enjoy fantastic views towards Scafell Pike and we are conveniently located for those who want to explore the many walks in the surrounding area.

These unique self contained holiday properties are full of character and charm and set within, though not part of, a working farm and are surrounded by various farm animals. They are pet friendly and all properties have multi fuel "log-burning” stoves, Wi-Fi and Sky TV.

The Bothy
This is a self contained building standing on its own offering cosy and comfortable upside down accommodation for two people. It combines the old with the new and has a multi fuel log burning stove. Stone steps lead up to the front door where you enter into the combined lounge/dining/kitchen area with its wooden floor and views towards Scafell Pike.

The Schoolhouse
With the conservatory/garden room this is a cosy self contained building standing privately on its own facing due south up the fell and offering character studio accommodation for two people. It combines the old with the new and has a multi fuel log burning stove in the living area.

A path leads to the front door where you enter into the combined lounge/dining/kitchen/bedroom area with exposed beams and stone walls. A door leads from the bedroom area to the en suite bathroom which has a spacious shower, hand basin and WC. A second door leads to the conservatory/garden room. There is a bistro table and chairs and a second multi fuel stove and whilst not practical all the year round it may be suitable from March/April to October/November, weather permitting.

The Buttery
A cosy self contained annexe to the house offering character accommodation for two people. It combines the old with the new and has a multi fuel log burning stove in the living area. A step leads from the parking area to the front door where you enter into the combined lounge/dining/kitchen area with a slate floor and oak beams. A half flight of steps leads down to the oak floored bedroom and the en suite bathroom comprising of a traditional slipper bath on feet, hand basin and WC.

The Cottage
This adjoins Woodend Barn and offers comfortable accommodation for up to six people. It combines the old with the new and has a multi fuel log burning stove. Through the front door you enter into the lounge with log burner and exposed beams, views towards Scafell Pike and a door that leads to the utility room, downstairs WC and kitchen. Stairs lead from the lounge to a landing, off which there are the three bedrooms, two doubles and one twin and the bathroom.

The holiday cottages are situated 3 miles from both the Eskdale Valley and the Duddon Valley and is conveniently located for Ulpha, Eskdale, Boot, Seathwaite and Broughton-in-Furness. It is also only a short drive from the more populated areas of Coniston, Windermere and Ambleside.

High Wallabarrow Cottage, Ulpha, Broughton-in-Furness, Cumbria (Sleeps 1-5)


Set in the Duddon Valley, a hidden jewel of Lakeland, Wallabarrow holiday cottage lies in a remote unspoilt corner of the Lake District National Park in Cumbria.

The self catering holiday cottage is cosy all year round. Well behaved dogs are welcome and must always be under control as they are likely to encounter sheep, cows, horses, chickens, rabbits, working dogs and young children on a daily basis!

The self catering holiday cottage accommodation comprises a newly fitted cottage kitchen with views to the Dunnerdale Fells and 'Caw'; two bedrooms, a family room upstairs with a king-size bed and a single bed (stairgate available) and a single bedroom downstairs with a four-foot bed. In addition, there is a full-size futon in the living room downstairs, where there is a colour TV with Freesat and DVD player. A stable door looks out onto the shared garden and up to the fells. The bathroom is downstairs and has a shower over the bath.

High Wallabarrow is a traditional hill farm owned by the National Trust, situated at the end of a quiet no-through road with only footpaths and bridleways beyond. The cottage nestles below the impressive Wallabarrow Crag (1,000ft) there are wonderful walks straight from the door, ranging from low-level riverside and woodland walks to the higher fells, including Harter Fell and the Coniston range.

The 16th century Newfield Inn, open all day serving good food and real ales, is a delightful 15-minute walk through Wallabarrow Woods and across the River Duddon. Also, the Blacksmiths Arms at Broughton Mills (four miles) serves excellent food.

Hobkin Holiday Cottages offer two self-catering cottages in Broughton Mills, a pretty Cumbrian village in the Lake District National Park. The accommodation is perfect for those who are looking for a relaxing break, as well as a great base for walkers who are exploring the area, whether you are looking for a weekly or short break holiday.

Bertha’s Cottage
This cottage offers couples or families a delightful, unique and comfortable base. Amenities and features include a comfortable lounge with Freeview TV, DVD player and a wood-burning stove, a well-equipped kitchen, ground floor bedroom with en suite shower room, a utility room & a first-floor bedroom with en suite facilities.

Please note: The second bedroom is on the 1st floor and is not near bedroom one, the accommodation may not be suitable for very young children. Ideal for two couples or family with older children.

Lind End Cottage
Perfect for solo travellers or couples, this cosy cottage includes everything you need for an enjoyable self-catering break. Amenities and features include an open plan living space, well-equipped kitchen area with domino induction hob, dining table, underfloor heating, comfortable sofa, television & Wi-Fi internet access.

The bedroom is upstairs and has a vaulted ceiling, skylights, blackout blinds, bespoke double bed, shower and separate toilet with wash hand basin, radiator and T.V. with sky free channels.

Log Cabin
A two bedroomed log cabin sleeping up to 4 people. It is suitable for couples’ friends and families, with a cosy and comfortable feel throughout. Amenities and features include a double bedroom, twin bedroom, galley-style kitchen & electric heating throughout

Visit the nearby market town of Broughton-in-Furness where you will find the butchers shop selling locally reared produce, greengrocer shop, a wonderful organic bakery and cafe and last but not least the Post Office selling daily newspapers and a variety of gifts.

Broughton-in-Furness also hosts a variety of eating places, cafes and local public houses some selling real ale, plus two garages both selling fuel.
