Greenbank Country House, Borrowdale, Keswick, Cumbria


Greenbank Country House offers spacious self-catering accommodation in the heart of the Borrowdale Valley, set in an idyllic countryside location within the Lake District. Surrounded by meandering rivers and some of Cumbria’s most breathtaking fells, the property provides an exceptional base for exploring this beautiful region. The market town of Keswick is just three and a half miles away, and the surrounding area is ideal for fell walking, climbing and cycling.

Accommodation

The house is accessed via the main front entrance, which opens into a spacious hallway featuring an elegant grand staircase. At the front of the property are two welcoming lounges, each with a fireplace and open fire, comfortable seating and TV/DVD facilities. Large windows in both rooms offer wonderful views across the garden, valley and surrounding fells.

The well-equipped kitchen includes a triple-oven Aga, a separate gas hob and oven, dishwasher, large toaster and microwave. Adjacent to the kitchen is a utility area with two large fridges, a chest freezer and two washing machines. The light-filled dining room, located next to the kitchen, provides ample seating for up to 19 guests and features large windows overlooking the side garden.

On the ground floor there is a double bedroom and a twin bedroom, both enjoying garden views, TVs and en-suite facilities.

The first floor offers further generous accommodation, with six double bedrooms, one twin bedroom and one single bedroom, all with en-suite bathrooms. Some of the bedrooms are also equipped with TVs. En-suite facilities include a WC and either a full stand-up shower or a shower over the bath.

Outdoor Space

Outside, Greenbank Country House benefits from a spacious hard-surfaced parking and turning area, along with a large side garden featuring outdoor seating with tables and chairs, mature trees and shrubs, and breathtaking views across the Borrowdale Valley and surrounding fells. The property is accessed via a private driveway off Borrowdale Road and occupies a beautifully elevated position.

Visiting Borrowdale & Exploring Cumbria

Borrowdale is a spectacular area to explore, offering outstanding natural beauty and a wealth of outdoor activities. The valley branches into Watendlath, Stonethwaite and Seathwaite, each providing excellent walking and cycling routes. Nearby Keswick offers a wide range of attractions, shops, restaurants and museums, as well as the opportunity to enjoy scenic boat trips on Derwentwater.

Manesty – Traditional Family-Run Accommodation in the Heart of Borrowdale

Manesty is nestled in the beautiful Borrowdale Valley, at the heart of the Lake District. Located just five miles from the market town of Keswick, less than a mile from both Derwent Water and the picturesque hamlet of Grange, it offers an ideal base for exploring some of England’s most stunning scenery.

Set within two acres of well-tended gardens and grounds, Manesty provides a choice of charming cottages and glamping accommodation sleeping between 2 and 8 guests. The properties boast wonderful views of the surrounding fields, woodlands, and fells. Week-long stays begin on either Fridays or Saturdays depending on the property, with short breaks also available – from Mondays for four nights or Fridays for three nights. Reduced rates are offered in larger cottages for smaller parties.

Manesty has been home to the same family for six generations, who continue their long-standing tradition of welcoming visitors to the Lake District. All properties are smoke-free, both indoors and outdoors, and pets are not accepted.

Manesty Holiday Cottages, Borrowdale, Keswick, Cumbria, Lake District (Sleeps 1-8)


Manesty is in Borrowdale in the heart of the Lake District. We are 5 miles from the market town of Keswick, less than a mile’s walk from Derwent Water and less than a mile from the little hamlet of Grange.

Our cottages and glamping accommodation sleep from 2 to 8. As well as week-long stays from either Fridays or Saturdays (arrival day depends on the accommodation), we also offer short breaks from Mondays for 4 nights or from Fridays for 3 nights in some of the accommodations. Set in about 2 acres of well-tended gardens and grounds our accommodation has wonderful views towards the fields, woodland and fells of Borrowdale. We offer reduced prices in the larger cottages for smaller parties.

Manesty has been our family’s home for 6 generations. Our family has a long history of welcoming visitors to the Lakes and we are proud to continue the tradition. Our accommodation is summarised below and is explained on our website in detail.

In the interests of our customers, we have a no-smoking policy, both inside and in the garden and grounds, and we do not accept any pets.

Manesty Band (sleeps 6/8):
Manesty Band was originally a barn which was incorporated into the old farmhouse in the 19th Century; consequently, it has a Victorian feel.

Manesty is the heart of the original farmhouse and dates back to medieval times when Manesty was the northern outpost of Furness Abbey’s wool-producing empire.

Cosy sitting room and large kitchen dining room with wood burning stove exposed beams and traditional meat hooks.

Cocklety How Stable Loft (sleeps 3/5):

High Seat (sleeps 3/5):
High Seat is the southern farm building which was extended and converted into a bungalow in the 1960s when the large picture windows in the sitting room and kitchen were installed.

Cocklety How Byre (sleeps 2/3):
A turn of the millennium extension to Cocklety How.

Fellside garden.

Manesty Dairy (sleeps 2):
Manesty Dairy is the compact Edwardian extension which was originally built to replace the front dairy. It was the scene of butter making and ham curing well into the mid-20th century but is now a cosy hideaway for two.

1 bathroom with shower over bath on ground floor.
Open plan sitting room/kitchen/dining on 1st floor.
Small rockery garden and close to the path to panoramic views in our fellside woodland.

Cocklety How Studio (sleeps 2):
Cocklety How Studio is part of Cocklety How, a beautifully situated converted and extended barn.

Large room with super king size double bed and dining area.
Small kitchenette (2 plate hob, combination oven/microwave/grill and fridge).
Shower room.
Patio.

Retro Caravan (sleeps 3):
A fun, retro static caravan for a back-to-nature break next to woodland. Ideal for the wildlife enthusiast with birds and squirrels close by.

1 double room, 1 double or twin room.
Galley kitchen.

Sitting room/dining area.

Shepherd Hut (sleeps 2):
A tiny traditionally styled shepherd’s hut for the ultimate glamping experience.

1 double bed, turns into a sofa during the day.

Firepit and seating area outside.
Shower 50m away in our barn.

Visting Borrowdale & Exploring Cumbria:
In Borrowdale, you will be in for a treat amongst some of England’s most spectacular scenery: walk the lake shores, valleys and high fells; tour picturesque villages and fascinating places; cycle, row, birdwatch, fish, climb; or simply unwind in rural tranquillity.

From Manesty you can step out into a walking adventure straight from the door, be it a relaxing ramble along the river or lakeshore; a rewarding walk up the famous Catbells (the path starts right next to us); or a long day hike taking in some of Borrowdale’s high fells or the Newland’s Horseshow. Grange boasts a picturesque stone bridge, a shallow gravelly stretch of the River Derwent, ideal for paddling and exploring, and a cafĂ© offering delicious home-cooked food. The rocky shores of southwest Derwent Water are ideal for exploring, picnicking and skimming stones! There are plenty of companies locally who can help you find your adventurous side: is yours on the water, up a crag or even maybe in the sky?

Longthwaite Farmhouse, Borrowdale, Keswick, Cumbria (Sleeps 1-9)


Longthwaite Farmhouse in Borrowdale offers self-catering accommodation in Grade II listed traditional C17th property. About 7 miles south of Keswick in the heart of the Lake District, our house provides the perfect base for exploring the central fells.

Accommodation:
With many of the original features retained and restored, the house has all you need for a really memorable holiday. The front windows look out towards Watendlath Fell and the garden runs down to the river Derwent with endless paddling and dam-building possibilities.

Four large bedrooms sleep 9 in seven singles and one double bed plus a cot. There is a bathroom with a WC, a separate shower room and a separate WC.

The spacious living room has a very efficient wood-burning stove and a good supply of dry logs is included. In the kitchen⧸dining room is the usual equipment including a double oven cooker, a large fridge and the dining table will seat up to 9.

Visiting Borrowdale & Exploring Cumbria:
We are ideally situated for long or short walks direct from the house or canoeing and swimming in nearby Derwentwater. Several excellent restaurants nearby include the Scafell hotel in Rosthwaite and the Langstrath in Stonethwaite - both less than 20 minutes walk. Keswick offers a good range of food shops, a huge range of outdoor equipment shops, an excellent theatre, cinema, 2 museums and a range of eateries to suit all tastes. Further afield attractions include:

Wordsworth’s houses in Grasmere and Cockermouth.
The steamboat museum on Windermere.
Honister slate mine and via ferrata.
Winlatter Outdoor centre.
Castlerigg stone circle.

Greenbank Self Catering Accommodation offers fantastic accommodation in the Borrowdale Valley, set in an idyllic countryside position. Surrounded by meandering rivers and some of the most breathtaking fells in The Lake District, this is ideal for a magical holiday in Cumbria. Keswick is only 3 ½ miles away and the area is great for fell walking, climbing and cycling.

Greenbank Country House:
This wonderful 10 bedroom house is set in an elevated position, boasting glorious views of Derwentwater Water and the surrounding fells. The house sits in its own grounds and sleeps up to 19 people, ideal for a family or group holiday in the country.

All the bedrooms are beautifully furnished and meticulously cleaned, perfect for a restful night’s sleep after a day roaming the countryside. 9 of the 10-bedrooms come with modern en suite facilities. All bed linen is provided. The house also has two spacious lounges with log fires, with wood and coal provided for the first day of your stay.

Maiden Moor:
This charming cottage sleeps 2 – 4 people, offering a cosy getaway in a peaceful setting. The house is perched on the hillside and enjoys spectacular views of Catbells, Maiden Moor and High Spy. You can unwind in the private garden on a sunny day and parking is provided.

The cottage includes a new and spacious open plan kitchen/dining/lounge area. The kitchen is great for cooking up a storm and has a fridge, microwave, ceramic hob, oven, grill and dishwasher. Relax in the lovely lounge which has a TV, DVD player and radio/CD player. Patio doors open onto a garden which includes a BBQ.

Two attractive bedrooms are available: 1 double and 1 twin. The double has a TV and a cot is available in request. The upstairs bathroom includes a shower and downstairs there is a further bathroom. All bed linen and towels are provided.

Borrowdale is a stunning area to explore, with lots of natural beauty to savour. Borrowdale splits into 3 valleys, Watendlath, Stonethwaite and Seathwaite, with all offering fantastic cycle and walking routes. You can visit the nearby market town of Keswick, home to an array of attractions, shops, restaurants and museums. You can also take a scenic boat trip around Lake Derwentwater.
