Accommodation

Originally a telephone exchange and post office, Mungo’s Den has been carefully rescued and beautifully restored to create a stylish and distinctive holiday home. The property offers a calm and restful atmosphere, rich in character and charm, and has been rebuilt with strong environmental principles in mind. Recycled and reclaimed materials are used throughout, including a spiral staircase salvaged from a garden and lovingly restored.

The living area features underfloor heating, a cosy log burner, a comfortable sofa and a dining table, creating a warm and inviting space to relax. The kitchen continues the recycled theme, combining eclectic crockery with charming Victorian cupboard doors.

The bathroom includes a rolled-top bath and underfloor heating for added comfort. Sleeping accommodation is arranged across two levels, with a super king-size bed on the mezzanine level beneath Velux windows and a double bedroom on the first floor.

Guests have exclusive use of the entire property, along with a small seating area to the rear and convenient parking at the front. Mungo’s Den offers a vintage retreat that blends its historic past with modern comforts in a truly memorable setting.

Visiting Portnalong & Exploring the Isle of Skye

Portnalong and nearby Carbost are surrounded by some of Skye’s most breathtaking scenery, including views of the iconic Cuillin Mountains. Scenic beach walks can be enjoyed at Fiskavaig Bay, Talisker and Glen Brittle, while Talisker Distillery is just three miles away and offers guided tours. Excellent food and live music can be found at The Old Inn in Carbost, with renowned dining available at Loch Bay Restaurant, Edinbane Lodge and The Three Chimneys. Torgorm Cottage is located in Carbost, a crofting community on the Isle of Skye close to the majestic Cuillin, a range of hills and mountains including 11 Munros. Overlooking beautiful Loch Harport, this modern bungalow is decorated and furnished to a high standard. It is a paradise for walkers, climbers, cyclists, and birdwatchers. Golf, fishing, and riding are also available.

The Holiday Cottage

Torgorm Cottage is the perfect place to relax and unwind or get out and about. The accommodation consists of an open plan living room and dining area, outdoor decking with great views down Loch Harport and up to the Cuillin, and a smart television with DVD player. Guests can enjoy free Wi-Fi and a fully equipped kitchen with a washing machine, fridge, and electric and microwave cookers. The cottage has three bedrooms: one double, one twin, and one single. The bathroom includes an electric shower, and electric panel heating is available throughout. All linen is provided during the summer season, and infants under twelve months can be catered for. Please note that pets are not allowed and the property is strictly non-smoking.

Guests of Torgorm Cottage benefit from an arrangement with the Isle of Skye Baking Company in Portree, allowing them to collect a complimentary goodie box. This box contains a selection of locally produced provisions, including free-range eggs, granary bread, fruit bannocks, shortbread, oatcakes, and mini jams. For those celebrating a special occasion, arrangements can be made for champagne, flowers, or a homemade cake.

Visiting Carbost & Exploring the Isle of Skye

Carbost offers a variety of attractions and amenities. The Old Inn, set on the shores of Loch Harport, is a local pub known for its warm Highland welcome, great food, and live music throughout the year. Another pub, Taigh Ailean, is situated at the end of the Minginish Peninsula, offering stunning views of Loch Harport, Macleod’s Tables, and the Cuillin.

The Sligachan Hotel serves breakfast from 8.30 am to non-residents and drinks from 11.00 am. The hotel also features a wet weather centre with a children’s crèche, billiards, pool, table tennis, and other games.

Inside the cottage, guests will find tourist literature detailing places of interest on the island. Notable recommendations include Dunvegan Castle, the Quiraing, and the Croft Museum in the north of the island. To the south, the Clan Donald Centre, set among lovely gardens and forest walks, and Elgol, with boat trips to Loch Coruisk, are highly recommended. The Old School House, Carbost, Isle of Skye

The Old School House offers self catering accommodation. It has a fine outlook down to Loch Harport and the Red Cuillins. It has been comfortably modernised while retaining its traditional character, including open fires, but modern double glazing throughout makes for comfort. The large original schoolroom has table tennis and other games making it ideal for evenings and wet weather. The cottage is situated on its own (the nearest house is about a quarter mile away) about half a mile above Carbost on the Isle of Skye.

The large old school room is one of the great assets of the cottage. It has been equipped with table tennis, darts and many other games and toys together with a number of fairly old sofas and armchairs, so it is a great place for children and adults alike to let off steam on wet days. There is also an open fire.

There are storage radiators in the hall and the sitting room and open fires in the kitchen/sitting room and in the school room. One free sack of coal is provided, a little kindling and a few firelighters to start you off on arrival. You can buy more in Portree and Broadford or we can sell you extra sacks. The cottage and school room are fully double glazed. There is a private water supply with a UV sterilisation and filtration plant. Hot water is provided by immersion heaters and time clocks and the shower heats its own water. Please note that electricity is NOT included in the rent.

Carbost is the largest settlement on the Minginish peninsula. It is best known for the Talisker distillery, which has dominated the wide valley since it was built in 1831. The distillery has an excellent visitor’s centre that is very popular. The village also has a hotel, a bunkhouse, shop, farm shop, café, Doctor’s surgery and post office.

There is a huge variety of things to do on the Isle of Skye including Armade Castle Gardens and Dunvegan Castle. If you’re a keen golfer the Isle of Skye Golf Club is excellent. For those keen on walking and climbing Skye would be a haven.

Allt Dearg offers self catering accommodation in Sligachan, in a spectacular and isolated position close under the Black Cuillin ridge this unique old shepherd's cottage is ideally situated for climbing, walking and for exploring the rest of Skye. Sheep sit on the doorstep and a lovely burn runs close by. It has been comfortably modernised while retaining its traditional character, including open fires, but modern double glazing throughout makes for comfort. The accommodation is divided into the main cottage which can sleep five and an annex (the Bothy) close by which sleeps three.

In the main cottage there is a single bedroom downstairs and two bedrooms upstairs. One of the upstairs bedrooms has a double and single bed in it for flexibility and the other has twin beds. The Bothy has a bedroom with three single beds. All beds have modern, comfortable mattresses, good quality duvets and pillows and are made up ready for you. The bedrooms have ample hanging and drawer space. There are lots of spare blankets. A cot and high chair can be provided on request. We don’t normally provide bedding for the cot.

All rooms have electric heaters with controllable time clocks. There is a storage radiator in the hall. There is wood in sacks in the garage. One sack and a bag of kindling is free and you pay for any others that you use (at cost) with the electricity when you leave. Both the cottage and Bothy are fully double glazed.
