Kirkdale Estate enjoys stunning sea views overlooking the beautiful Solway Firth in Dumfries and Galloway. Set within the estate are two detached self-catering cottages, each in its own peaceful and secluded location. The estate is just 5 miles from the popular town of Gatehouse of Fleet and within 30 minutes of Kirkcudbright (Artists’ Town), Castle Douglas (Food Town) and Wigtown (Book Town).
Kirkdale Port
Kirkdale Port is a charming traditional cottage with breathtaking sea views and a south-facing garden that stretches down to the shore. The cottage sleeps up to six guests, with the sitting/dining room and all three bedrooms enjoying views across the Solway Firth.
Accommodation includes a ground floor double bedroom and two twin rooms upstairs. The cosy sitting/dining room features a wood-burning stove and a dining table seating up to eight, along with a TV/DVD player. The well-equipped kitchen includes a dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer and washer/dryer.
Guests can enjoy sea fishing right from the doorstep, and the surrounding area is rich in wildlife, including rabbits, deer, birds, moles, squirrels and woodpeckers.
Garden Cottage
Garden Cottage is a peaceful retreat nestled within the original walled garden of the estate, offering complete tranquillity. This traditional Galloway cottage is set within its own unique two-acre enclosed walled garden.
The cottage sleeps six guests and features a master king bedroom and two twin rooms, one of which includes a mid-sleeper bed ideal for children. All rooms are fitted with blackout curtains to ensure a restful night’s sleep.
There is a spacious kitchen/dining area with a cosy wood-burning stove and a large table seating up to 8–10 guests. The kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, oven, hob and fridge, while a separate utility room includes a microwave, freezer and washer/dryer. The sitting room also has a wood-burning stove, along with south-facing windows and French doors that open onto the expansive private garden. Free logs and Wi-Fi are provided.
Visiting the Area
Kirkdale Estate is perfectly positioned to explore the stunning Fleet Valley and beyond. The nearby town of Gatehouse of Fleet offers a charming base, while the surrounding area boasts a wealth of walking routes, from coastal paths to the hills of Cairnsmore of Fleet. Visitors can also explore the dramatic scenery around the old viaduct featured in The 39 Steps.
Guests have access to a tennis court on the estate, and there are numerous outdoor activities nearby, including walking, cycling, fishing, golf and horse riding. The Galloway Forest Park offers excellent walking opportunities, while the renowned 7stanes mountain biking trails are just ten minutes away.
Family-friendly attractions such as Cream o’ Galloway and the Cocoa Bean are within a 15-minute drive, and there is a selection of beautiful beaches nearby to enjoy.
