The Straw Roundhouse, Radford Semele, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire

Situated within a peaceful Warwickshire meadow, the Straw Roundhouse is a beautifully crafted retreat designed to immerse guests in nature. Its distinctive circular form, handcrafted details and use of natural materials create a space that feels both grounding and inspiring. Drawing on the principles of biophilic design, the roundhouse blends organic textures, soft earthy finishes and flowing architectural lines to foster a sense of calm, comfort and connection to the surrounding landscape. Every element has been carefully considered to create an environment that supports relaxation, wellbeing and a slower pace of living.

Accommodation

Constructed entirely from natural materials, the roundhouse features locally sourced timbers, straw bale walls, clay plaster and earthen flooring. These breathable materials naturally regulate humidity and temperature, keeping the interior cool during summer and warm throughout winter, while also creating exceptional acoustics that enhance the peaceful atmosphere of the building.

The circular layout flows around a central Douglas Fir frame and a striking reciprocal roof structure that spirals upward toward a glazed lantern at the centre of the ceiling. From the comfort of the bed, guests can watch the clouds drift by during the day, follow the movement of the sun, or stargaze beneath the night sky.

The roundhouse comfortably sleeps between one and five guests, featuring a luxurious king-size bed with privacy curtains and a mezzanine double bed nestled amongst the timber beams above. Beneath the mezzanine, a cosy snug with a deep sofa provides the perfect place to relax with a book or evening drink. An additional single bed is available for an extra charge, while a cot and highchair can be provided on request, making the space equally suited to couples, families or small groups.

At the heart of the open-plan living space is a handmade kitchen crafted from local Ash and Oak, fully equipped for cooking and entertaining. Heavy curtains, bamboo blinds and wooden shutters allow the roundhouse to transform into a secluded retreat at any time of day.

For entertainment, the roundhouse features an 80-inch projector screen with streaming apps and a Bluetooth sound system, creating a private cinema experience. During the colder months, a wood burner adds warmth, comfort and atmosphere alongside underfloor heating that runs throughout the property.

Outside, the roundhouse sits beside an ancient Oak tree within a peaceful meadow garden. The outdoor space includes a fire pit, seating circle, patio dining area and private garden seating, all surrounded by quiet countryside and nature.

The roundhouse is tucked away on one side of a wide valley with the Grand Union Canal running nearby. A hill in front of the building creates an intimate horizon, framed by the silhouette of an ancient horned Ash tree at its centre. Guests can step directly from the roundhouse into the surrounding countryside and explore the different areas of the farm and wider landscape in every direction.
