Ellary Holiday Cottages, Lochgilphead, Argyll

Ellary Holiday Cottages offers self-catering accommodation in a peaceful waterfront setting, quite literally just a stone’s throw from the water. With properties sleeping between 2 and 8 guests — including several with gates leading directly onto the beach — there is something to suit every visitor.

Accommodation

Each cottage is detached and set within its own private grounds, giving guests the chance to fully enjoy the tranquillity of the estate. Wildlife is abundant, with frequent sightings of eagles, otters, red squirrels and deer, often visible from the comfort of the cottages themselves.

The estate is family-run and features no through road, ensuring a warm welcome and helpful guidance from someone always on hand to offer advice about local walks. All properties are well-maintained and well-equipped; all but one have open fires, and all include Wi-Fi, DVD players and washing machines (except the Lochead Chalets). Payphones are also available, as some mobile networks have limited coverage, although EE (including BT/Plusnet Mobile) provides a strong 4G signal and Vodafone usually works too. Sleeping 2–8 guests, the cottages can be booked individually or side-by-side for multi-generation groups or families travelling together.

Dogs and other pets are warmly welcomed and benefit from enclosed gardens and miles of paths and coastline to explore.

Visiting Ellary & Exploring Argyll

Situated in a secluded position, the Ellary estate offers 15,000 acres for guests — and their four-legged companions — to roam freely, safely away from main roads. Visitors can discover an old abandoned village at the tip of the peninsula, wander through ancient oak woodlands, tackle miles of hills or enjoy long coastal walks. Guests are welcome to explore anywhere on the estate, with dogs only required to be on leads when in sight of livestock.

The nearest town is around 15 miles away and offers a supermarket along with restaurants and other amenities. Multiple ferries are within easy reach, making Ellary an excellent base for day trips.

Guests may bring their own boat or kayaks and use the private harbour and launching points. If lucky, they may even find otters joining them for lunch on one of the many small islands dotted along the coastline!

The estate also features a practice golf course that guests may use free of charge; clubs can be borrowed from the office. Fishing is available on the estate as well, with permits for the hill lochs and burn priced at £20 per rod, per week.
