Muckle Roe Chapel is a beautifully restored home-from-home set on the peaceful island of Muckle Roe in the Shetland Islands, offering the perfect escape from the pace of everyday life. Originally built in 1911 as a chapel for the local community, the property was lovingly renovated and extended in 2014 to create a luxurious rural retreat with breathtaking coastal views.
Situated on the island’s east coast, just three miles from the town of Brae and accessible via a bridge, Muckle Roe Chapel enjoys a private location set back from the public road. Guests can relax in complete tranquillity while taking in panoramic views over Busta Voe and the surrounding landscape.
Accommodation
The interior of Muckle Roe Chapel blends modern comfort with timeless charm, featuring underfloor heating throughout.
The entrance opens through a glazed porch with coat hooks and a pew bench reclaimed from the original chapel. The former vestry door leads to a utility area with a washing machine, separate dryer, and outdoor access to a rotary clothesline.
From the porch, guests step into the open-plan living space, where high ceilings and expansive windows fill the room with natural light and showcase stunning sea views. The fully equipped kitchen includes an induction hob, oven, combination microwave, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, and all essential utensils and crockery. The dining table seats six comfortably, with the option to extend for larger groups and provide child seating.
The adjoining lounge features a wood-burning stove, floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the water, and a wall-mounted TV with Freeview and DVD player. A selection of books, games, DVDs, and toys ensures entertainment for all ages. Above the lounge, a cosy mezzanine hideaway, accessed by a fold-away ladder, offers a relaxing nook with bean bags and a Velux window that frames westward sunset views.

Bedroom one offers a double bed and generous storage.
Bedroom two, ideal for families, includes a double bunk bed and an elevated single bunk with a removable ladder.
The main bathroom features a full-sized bath, mains shower, and glazed screen. All bed linen and towels are 100% cotton, and complimentary toiletries from the Shetland Soap Company add a thoughtful local touch.
