On the small hill above the village is the substantial ruin of Tarbert Castle with lovely views across the bay to Barfad Farmlands and also across Loch Fyne and Cowal.
During the summer, the "Waverley", the world's last oceangoing paddle steamer visits the pier at Tarbert. Just along the road, a ferry runs to Portavadie on the other side of Loch Fyne. There are other ferries within easy driving in the general area which can take you to the islands for a day trip.
For the energetic, there are numerous walks of varying difficulty. Many commence at the castle in Tarbert which is the beginning of the newly opened Kintyre Way which runs the length of the Kintyre Peninsula – a maximum of 103 miles.
