Nestled beside the tranquil River Swale and surrounded by lush green valleys, patchwork fields and breathtaking countryside, these characterful cottages provide the perfect retreat for walkers, cyclists, anglers, artists and anyone looking to relax and unwind in the Yorkshire Dales.

Intake Cottage

Intake Cottage is a traditional stone-built holiday home full of character and period charm. Original features, including beamed ceilings, flagged stone floors and an impressive 18th-century stone and cast-iron open fireplace, create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, while antique furnishings and comfortable décor add to its timeless appeal.

The cosy sitting and dining room includes a TV and DVD player, making it the perfect place to relax after a day exploring the Dales. The well-equipped fitted kitchen features a Belfast sink, electric double oven and hob, microwave, fridge freezer and dishwasher, combining modern convenience with traditional character.

The cottage accommodates up to four guests across two upstairs bedrooms. The master bedroom has a double bed, while the second bedroom, accessed through the main bedroom, includes a single bed and a pull-out standard single bed for a fourth guest. The bathroom, located just off the master bedroom, features a bath with shower over, heated towel rail and shaver point.

Outside, guests can enjoy a private, south-facing raised garden overlooking the River Swale. The patio terrace, complete with garden furniture, provides a wonderful spot for barbecues, picnics or simply soaking up the peaceful surroundings.

Swallows Byre

Swallows Byre is a cosy retreat designed especially for couples. Situated just beyond the garden wall of Intake Cottage, it enjoys the same stunning south-facing countryside views in a peaceful setting.

The cottage has been thoughtfully designed with the main living accommodation on the first floor to make the most of the spectacular scenery. The bright and welcoming open-plan living and dining area features a wood-burning stove, quality furnishings, a TV, Blu-ray DVD player, free Wi-Fi and doors opening onto a delightful roof terrace.

On the ground floor, the charming bedroom features an antique double bed, while the elegant bathroom includes a luxurious roll-top bath and underfloor heating. The adjoining kitchenette is equipped with a Belfast sink, washing machine, electric cooker, microwave, toaster and small fridge freezer.

Outside, guests can relax in the pretty garden, enjoy the summer house or make the most of the barbecue area for alfresco dining.

Exploring Low Row & North Yorkshire

Intake Cottage & Swallows Byre are perfectly positioned for discovering the stunning Yorkshire Dales. Numerous walking and mountain biking routes begin directly from Low Row, with guidebooks provided in the cottages to help guests explore the surrounding countryside.

Just over the famous Buttertubs Pass lies the market town of Hawes, home to the renowned Wensleydale Creamery. In the opposite direction, visitors can discover the historic Georgian market town of Richmond, Barnard Castle and the acclaimed Bowes Museum, which hosts a varied programme of international art exhibitions throughout the year.

Guests will also find an excellent selection of traditional Yorkshire pubs and restaurants nearby, serving everything from hearty local specialities to contemporary cuisine.

Intake Cottage & Swallows Byre offer self catering holiday accommodation located just 1 mile west of Low Row, which is close to Richmond in North Yorkshire. The cottages have the advantage of being situated in a unique spot; both close to the tranquillity of the River Swale and not too far from the local amenities. There are lush green valleys, patchwork fields and a freshwater river, making it an ideal location for walking, cycling, sightseeing, trout fishing, painting or just plain relaxing.

Intake Cottage cottage comes with great character including a beamed ceiling, original flagged stone floors and a stone and cast iron open fire in the sitting/dining room. Four people can be accommodated in the two upstairs bedrooms.  At the front of the cottage is a private raised garden. It overlooks the River Swale and is south facing. The patio terrace with garden furniture is ideal for barbeques and picnics.

Swallows Byre is a cosy cottage for 2 and is situated over the garden wall of Intake Cottage. It enjoys the same south-facing views and is a lovely place to stay for those who want to rest and recuperate. To ensure you can make the most of these views at any time of day, we have used the first floor as the main living space. This living/dining room has a wood burner and doors leading out to a roof terrace. Outside is a garden & summer house as well as a BBQ area for those days you want to dine outside.

There are many local walks and mountain bike routes starting from Low Row, several of which are depicted in guidebooks at the cottage.

Swaledale Cottages, Healaugh, Richmond, North Yorkshire (Sleeps 2-4)

Swaledale Cottages offers superb self-catering accommodation close to the village of Healaugh in the town of Richmond. Our oldest cottage dates back to the eighteenth century and boasts individual character. We are the perfect base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales.

The Bothy sleeps 2 and is the ideal honeymoon cottage. It is a cosy, tastefully decorated, fully modernised conversion of the tack rooms over what used to be the old stone stable block of Thiernswood Hall. 

Thiernswood sleeps 4 is an outstanding holiday home for the family or 2 couples. It is a fully modernised traditional Dales cottage built in the middle of the last century. It has its own enclosed garden and faces south overlooking the beautiful valley of Swaledale. 

The area is essentially walking country and you will find much to enjoy as you tramp the heather moors, ford the streams or pause to admire the handiwork of dry stone wall builders. Reeth is the main village in the centre of the Dale. It has a large village green surrounded by stone-built houses, country shops, pubs and tea shops.
