Carna Cottage offers a truly unique holiday experience on a private 600-acre island, providing complete seclusion and tranquillity. This stunning self-catering holiday home is accessible only by boat, ensuring a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Carna Cottage caters to families, friends, couples, and individuals seeking a memorable self-catered holiday. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed with guidance on how to navigate the boat and the best places to spot the island’s spectacular wildlife. Originally a farmer’s blackhouse, the cottage has been fully modernised to offer a relaxing and comfortable stay. The accommodation includes two bedrooms and a sofa bed, sleeping up to six people. The bedrooms share a family bathroom, with towels and bedding provided for convenience.

The cosy lounge features a wood-burning stove, comfortable seating, and a smart TV with an Amazon Firestick, Netflix, and a DVD player. Electric lighting is powered by the island’s generator. The fully fitted kitchen and dining room include a fridge freezer and cooker, providing everything needed for a self-catered holiday. Guests can also unwind in the sunlit conservatory, enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Wildlife is abundant, with otters frequently feeding and fishing around the pontoon, seals swimming through Caol Chàrna narrows, and eagles often perching nearby.

The island offers a unique freedom to explore both on land and by boat. Its breathtaking natural beauty provides the perfect setting for guided walks or independent adventures. Visitors can enjoy hillside rambles, shoreline explorations in search of rock pools and crabs, archaeological discoveries, or launching their own boating expeditions. The lack of light pollution allows for stunning views of the Milky Way on clear nights. Sitting outside in the peaceful silence, gazing at the stars and spotting shooting stars and satellites, is an unforgettable experience.

Carna Cottage offers a truly unique holiday experience on a private 600 acre island. Our stunning self catering holiday home is truly secluded and can only be accessed by our inclusive boat. We truly are an idyllic holiday away!

Accommodation
We provide memorable self catered holidays for families, friends, couples and individuals. From the moment you arrive we will be your guide! We’ll even show you how to drive the boat and where best to see the spectacular wildlife. The cottage was originally the farmers ‘Blackhouse’ and had been fully modernised to provide relaxing and comfortable accommodation. There are 2 bedrooms and a sofa bed to sleep 6 people. The bedrooms share a family bathroom. Towels and bedding are included.

Unwind in the cosy lounge that has a toasty wood burning stove, comfy seating and a smart TV with Amazon Firestick, Netflix a DVD player. Electric lighting is provided by the island generator. The fully fitted kitchen/dining room includes a fridge freezer and cooker. You can also relax in the sun filled conservatory whilst enjoying the wonderful views. Otters feed and fish on and around the pontoon in front on a daily basis whilst seals swim past heading through Caol Chàrna narrows to our right and both eagles often perch on ‘the bridge’ in full view!

There is a unique freedom to explore on land and by boat this stunningly beautiful and secluded area, so free from light pollution the Milky Way lights up the sky on clear nights.

Visiting Carna & Exploring The Mainland
The beautiful seclusion of this wild conservation island gives ample opportunities for exciting outdoor adventure. Guided walks, or exploring on your own, the island offers amazing opportunities for hillside rambles and picnics, wandering the shoreline for rock pools and finding crabs, discovering the archaeology or launching your own expeditions by boat. With zero light pollution on a clear night on Carna provides quite a spectacle. To sit outside the houses on a dead quiet night and admire the scale of the cosmos while spotting shooting stars and satellites whizz by is one of our favourite experiences on Carna.
