Tredington Mill, Tredington, Shipston-on-Stour, Warwickshire

Tredington Mill, Tredington, Shipston-on-Stour, Warwickshire

Tredington Mill, an 18th-century Warwickshire water mill, offers charming self-catering accommodation in the village of Tredington near Shipston-on-Stour. The mill has been thoughtfully converted into two beautifully appointed holiday homes, Puddle Cottage and Pool View, both ideal for families or couples seeking to explore the heart of England. Situated to the south of Stratford-upon-Avon, at the edge of the Cotswold Hills, these cottages are perfectly placed for discovering the rich cultural and natural heritage of Shakespeare Country.

Puddle Cottage provides a peaceful retreat with French windows that open onto a tranquil courtyard garden. The garden, equipped with a table and chairs, is an ideal spot for soaking up the sun or enjoying an evening drink while taking in the unspoilt views of the river and its wildlife-filled island just a few feet away. This centrally heated holiday home retains many original features, including exposed beams, and is spread across three floors. On the ground floor, guests will find a fully fitted kitchen with an electric hob and oven, a dining area with seating for four, and a comfortable lounge with a widescreen TV. The first floor features a double bedroom and a separate shower room with a WC. The top floor hosts a twin or double bedroom with an en suite bathroom, including a shower over the bath. Due to the mill stream running through the property, Puddle Cottage is not suitable for unsupervised children, though well-behaved pets are welcome.

Pool View is a cosy holiday cottage that retains many of its original features, such as exposed beams, steep staircases, and large mill windows that showcase the exceptional views. Guests staying at Pool View can enjoy the garden, which is situated on a river island that splits the River Stour to feed the mill stream. The garden features a weir, a notable weeping willow, and provides opportunities to spot wildlife such as swans, kingfishers, herons, and occasionally otters. The centrally heated accommodation spans two floors. The first floor includes a living room, a separate fully fitted kitchen and dining room, and a WC. Upstairs, there is one double and one twin or double bedroom, with a bathroom that includes an electric shower over the bath. Pool View is available for both long and short stays, with changeovers on Fridays for weekly and weekend breaks, and from Monday to Friday for mid-week breaks. The property’s owners are flexible with booking dates where possible, though for safety reasons, guests are asked not to light candles in the cottage.

Tredington itself is a picturesque village nestled between Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare's birthplace, and many of the Cotswolds' most popular attractions. It serves as a convenient base for exploring the area, which is renowned for its beautiful landscapes and charming stone-walled villages, many of which boast historic churches and pubs offering local beers. There are three local breweries nearby for those who enjoy sampling regional ales.

Just two miles away is the market town of Shipston-on-Stour, where visitors can find a variety of restaurants, takeaways, pubs, and supermarkets, as well as essential services such as a bank, post office, chemist, and leisure centre. The town is also home to a range of independent shops, including delicatessens, a wine merchant, a fresh fish shop, butchers, and bakers.

For those interested in cultural and historical sites, there are ten National Trust properties within a 20-mile radius of Tredington, including Hidcote and Snowshill Manor. Additionally, many privately owned houses, gardens, and attractions are open to the public, such as Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, Batsford Arboretum, and Stanway House, which features the tallest gravity-fed fountain in the world. Tredington Mill offers an ideal base for exploring this rich and diverse region of England.
