Painsmore Cottage, Bewdley Kidderminster, Worcestershire
Painsmore Cottage is a Grade II Listed building near Kidderminster, dating from the early 17th Century. It has recently been refurbished to a high standard, while still retaining many of its original features and 'olde worlde' character. Approached via a long, private drive, it lies next to the River Severn from where the trains of the Severn Valley Railway can be seen steaming along the opposite river bank. It is less than one mile by road from Bewdley, and you can walk along the river bank to the town in about 10-15 minutes.
Downstairs there is an entrance hall with an under-stair storage cupboard. The lounge has seating for 5-6 people and features a 32-inch flat screen TV (with Freeview) and DVD player. It has a wood-burning stove, and there is a selection of books in the bookcase for your entertainment. Just off the lounge is a downstairs toilet/utility room, which also houses the automatic washing machine.
The dining room can seat six people around the table, and there are also two easy chairs. There is a stereo CD/cassette/radio player and a selection of tourist guides and information leaflets to help you decide what to do. The room also has a wood-burning stove in a large inglenook fireplace.
The kitchen is fully equipped with an electric cooker and ceramic hob, microwave, kettle, toaster, food processor, and large fridge freezer. Leading off from the kitchen, the back porch can be used to store fishing equipment, wet gear, and 'dirty' shoes and boots.
Upstairs, there is a main bedroom with a double bed and two twin-bedded rooms; one of these bedrooms leads off from the other, meaning you have to go through one to get to the other. The bathroom has a large shower cubicle with an electric shower, toilet, wash basin, underfloor electric heating, electric wall heater, shaver socket, and heated towel rail. There is a storage cupboard on the landing.
Outside, there is a large, quiet, secluded cottage garden with a well-maintained lawn, flower borders, and many shrubs and trees. You can relax in peace, sunbathe, enjoy a barbecue, or just watch the birds that love the garden. There are bird feeders to enable you to watch close up the many bird species that visit the cottage. In the garden, you will find a patio table with an umbrella and chairs, and deck chairs are available for sunbathing.
For fishing enthusiasts, the river next to the cottage provides good, predominantly barbel fishing, which is free for our visitors. For outdoor enthusiasts, there are many walking and cycling opportunities around the area.
Besides relaxing at the cottage, fishing, or getting some fresh air and exercise in the nearby Wyre Forest, you can easily access many places of interest nearby. Explore the Georgian town of Bewdley with its rich history, a great museum, and many eating and drinking establishments. Enjoy a ride on the Severn Valley Railway from the nearby Bewdley station. Visit the West Midlands Safari Park, which is just three miles away.
Other interesting towns to visit include Ludlow, Tenbury Wells, Worcester, Stratford on Avon, Hereford, and Malvern Wells. Additionally, historic houses such as Witley Court & Gardens, Harvington Hall, Berrington Hall, and Wightwick Manor & Gardens are all worth exploring.
