Little Swinside Cottage is an addition to a former farm workers cottage dating back to the 1800s that now forms part of 3 beautiful self catering holiday cottages which reside in an idyllic hillside setting and boast panoramic views of Lorton Valley. Our spacious and charming holiday cottage is just a 20 minutes walk from the peaceful Cumbrian village of High Lorton which is only 4 miles away from Cockermouth.
Little Swinside Cottage may be small by name but is certainly not small by nature! Maintaining most of its original features and oak beams, Little Swinside is an adorable 1 bedroom character property that can accommodate up to 4 people in one double bedroom and an additional sofa bed in the patio room.
Most of the accommodation is upstairs including the cosy living/dining room which has a TV, DVD player, dining table, books, maps and looks north and east towards the picturesque Lorton Fells. A door leads from the sitting room into the galley kitchen that is well equipped for a comfortable stay with an electric cooker and a ceramic hob, microwave and fridge. The double bedroom has an oak beamed ceiling and built in wardrobes and shares the same wonderful view over the Lorton valley, but you can also see towards the distant Scottish mountains.
The area surrounding the cottage is ideal for walking. There is a wide range of walks straight from the doorstep including 3 lakes. Whinlatter Forest Park offers extensive trails close by for all levels of mountain bikers. Cockermouth town is a short distance away and has beautiful Georgian architecture, places to eat and independent shops.
There are many attractions to visit close by such as Wordsworth House, Derwentwater, Castlerigg Stone Circle, Honister Slate Mine and the Lake District National Park.
