High Swinside Cottage is a former farm workers cottage dating back to the 1800s that now forms part of 3 beautiful self catering holiday cottages which reside in an idyllic hillside setting and boast panoramic views of Lorton Valley. Our spacious and charming holiday cottage is just a 20 minutes walk from the peaceful Cumbrian village of High Lorton which is only 4 miles away from Cockermouth.
High Swinside Cottage is a delightful 3 bedroom property that can accommodate up to 5 people in one double en suite, one twin bedroom and a single room. Each bedroom offers wonderful views whether it be of our tranquil garden, Lorton Valley or down across the Loweswater Fells.
Downstairs is a comfortable and cosy living room which has a red brick fireplace with log burner – perfect for nights in snuggled around the roaring fire, TV, DVD player and maps to help guide you around this spectacular and majestic area. The well equipped family kitchen benefits from Velux roof lights and is bright and airy and has a dining area with table and chairs, electric cooker, microwave and fridge and boasts stunning views looking out over the Lorton Valley – in fact, you’ll struggle to find a window in this property that doesn’t have magnificent views!
The area surrounding the cottage is ideal for walking. There is a wide range of walks straight from the doorstep including 3 lakes. Whinlatter Forest Park offers extensive trails close by for all levels of mountain bikers. Cockermouth town is a short distance away and has beautiful Georgian architecture, places to eat and independent shops.
There are many attractions to visit close by such as Wordsworth House, Derwentwater, Castlerigg Stone Circle, Honister Slate Mine and the Lake District National Park.
