Fishpools Cottages, Kyre, Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire

Fishpools Cottages, Kyre, Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire

Fishpool Cottages are nestled in the serene and untouched countryside where Worcestershire, Herefordshire, and South Shropshire converge. This setting belies its accessibility; despite the peaceful surroundings, the cottages are just a three-hour drive on the motorway from many of England’s major cities. For guests looking to explore, there is an abundance of activities and sights within easy reach of the cottages.

Long Cover Cottage accommodates up to six guests and is a beautifully converted stable. As you wind up the track to the cottage, glimpses of the Teme and Kyre valleys appear intermittently. Inside, the cottage is bathed in natural light that gleams off polished elm floors. The charm of the wood-burner, Aga, and handcrafted kitchen invite relaxation and communal cooking. Upstairs, the floral, brass-bedded rooms nestle under the eaves, complemented by a convenient upstairs loo. The ground floor houses a sparkling bathroom complete with a roll-top tub. Outside, children have seven acres to explore, including a hidden treehouse equipped with hammocks and a barbecue area.

Coach House is perfect for two and is tucked within the expansive grounds of a 16th-century timber-framed house. This romantic retreat is reached by a simple track, leading to a stone-walled and tiled hideaway that has been constructed almost entirely from locally reclaimed materials. The open-plan interior is both relaxed and welcoming, featuring a weighty leather chesterfield, a wood-burner, and a hand-crafted oak kitchen. The bedroom is bright and airy, framed by exposed beams, with a convenient shower room nearby. Guests can wander through ancient woodland, dotted with orchids beside a babbling brook, or relax in a charming treehouse before settling down to view the stunning vistas of the Teme and Kyre valleys.

Ebony Cottage is a masterclass in craftsmanship, built entirely from locally sourced stone, oak, and handcrafted leaded light windows. This cottage exudes charm and character; inside, a leather sofa sits beside a wood-burner, and the open-plan kitchen, complete with an Aga and underfloor heating, wraps around the main living area. An oak staircase leads to a galleried landing and an open-plan bedroom and dressing area that overlooks the sitting room.

The local area is ripe for exploration. Ludlow offers a plethora of dining options and is only a fifteen-minute drive away. For day trips, Hay-on-Wye, Ironbridge, and the Malvern Hills beckon with their unique attractions and natural beauty. Historical sites such as Ludlow Castle, Croft Castle, and Eastnor Castle are easily accessible. Directly from the cottages, a network of footpaths and bridleways offer excellent opportunities for spotting local wildlife including badgers, woodpeckers, buzzards, and owls. The nearby market town of Tenbury Wells is just four miles away, providing further avenues for exploration and enjoyment of the local culture.

Inside this spacious cottage, there is a cosy sitting area with comfy seating, a TV and a wood burner, offering a great place to socialise after a day of exploring. You can also unwind in the sun-filled conservatory, offering a lovely place for a morning coffee over a good book. Rustle up a feast in the well-equipped farmhouse kitchen which comes with a range of appliances. Savour delicious meals around the dining table with your loved ones.

In total, there are four gorgeous bedrooms, each with a king-size bed. The Slate Room and The Oak Room boast magnificent wooden beams and enjoy glorious views across the garden, or across to Clee Hill. The rooms also have sofa beds upon request and a single bed is available in the Slate Room. Two more rooms are available, the Dhustone Room and Clay Room, with the latter offering a delightful balcony to relax on.
