Local Area
Nether Stowey is an interesting and attractive village and has many surviving mediaeval buildings. Castle Street, where Damson Cottage is situated, leads up to the remains of Stowey Castle high above, where sheep now safely graze. From here you have views over the Quantocks, to the Mendips, to the sea and over to Wales. The poet Coleridge lived and wrote in the village and his house is open to the public (NT). The newly designated Coleridge Way starts here, continuing across the Brendon Hills, Exmoor and finishing in Porlock. The cottage is an ideal base for exploring this beautiful area with its moorland, woods, wildlife and wonderful views. For cyclists, the Quantocks have many cycling trails.
