Bee-Eater Cottage, Bishop Middleham, Ferryhill, Durham (Sleeps 1-8)

Bee-Eater Cottage at Bishop Middleham in Durham is a fantastic place to stay for those who want a break away from the noise of modern-day living. The holiday cottage is nestled in a beautiful location, just a short drive from Ferryhill, on a farm next to a nature reserve. We aim to provide guests with a comfortable place to stay that feels like a home away from home.

The cottage is named after a pair of breeding Bee-Eaters, who were seen in the nature reserve next to the farm. During this time, we were visited by many keen birdwatchers from throughout the UK, including RSPB volunteers who stayed for nearly 3 months to observe these beautiful birds.

Once the birds had moved on, we decided to keep the name and offer our cottage to all who would like a peaceful breakaway and an opportunity to do some birdwatching of their own whilst exploring this lovely part of England.

The cottage includes everything you need for an enjoyable stay, no matter how short or long, Downstairs is a large breakfast kitchen, lounge/dining room and bedroom with a double bed. There is also a WC and utility room.

Upstairs there are three bedrooms; one with a double bed, one with two singles and one with bunk beds. There is also a family bathroom, with a bath and shower.

Outside is where you can enjoy your location. In front of the house, there is a small garden where you can enjoy a BBQ or simply sit out and watch the parkland animals with the lake in the distance. There is also a 5-acre grass field just the other side of the fence where many a game of family football or rounders has been undertaken, as well as kite flying, frisbee and a whole host of other games.

To the rear of the house is an enclosed garden and parking for as many vehicles as you can bring.

Bee-Eater cottage is only 25 years old and offers modern facilities in a rural location. Be sure to bring good outdoor clothing so that you can make the most of your stay by walking the beautiful farm and if you're, lucky you’ll be able to experience our wonderful animals close-up by taking full benefit of your VIP stay.

Farnless Farm Park is renowned for the range of wild birds it attracts over the spring and summer months. (120 species and counting). Our herds of Bison and Deer roam the pasture and you will be sure to get up close with these animals in their natural environment on your farm walk and depending on the time of year you may even see some young. These are dangerous farm animals that occupy a big area and at no time can you enter their pasture so be prepared to walk.

If you are a keen bird watcher or purely interested in the countryside and its flora and fauna you’ll enjoy your time at Farnless and are guaranteed to see English nature at its best.
